Good!
The Labor-Zionist movement is
solidly behind such an organiza-
tion. So are the Landsmanshaf-
ten and fraternal organizations.
Those opposed to it are the un-
democratic assimilationist Jewish
organizations which are unrepre-
sentative of American Jewry. In
the meantime, however, the Jew-
ish Conference goes out of ex-
istence officially on Dec. 31.
On the very eve of the liquida-
tion of the American Jewish
Conference, a proposal to revive
the body was made by the repre-
sentatives of the influential La-
bor Zionist body, the Jewish Na-
tional Labor Alliance.
An appeal signs d by David
Pinsky, famous Yiddish author
and president of the alliance, and
by Louis Segal, secretary of the
organization, expressed regret at
the liquidation of the Conference
and called for a revival of it in a
new form.
Segal amplified the appeal in
an article in the Tog, in which
he states that the liquidation of
the Conference is particularly un-
fortunate at this moment because
the establishment of the Jewish
State makes the existence of a
central democratic authority in
American Jewish life particular-
ly necessary.

Zionist Volumes
Districts in the Michigan
Zionist Region are making sure
that Zionist literature is avail-
. able to all members of their
communities by presenting full
shelves of Zionist books to their
local libraries. Four Michigan
groups have already purchased
the book shelves in the past few
months.
The first group to start the
ball rolling was the Haifa
Chapter of the Zionist Organ-
ization of Detroit. They present-
ed a book shelf of some 40
volumes to the Detroit Public
Library.
