Those opposed to it are the un- democratic assimilationist Jewish organizations which are unrepre- sentative of American Jewry. In the meantime, however, the Jew- ish Conference goes out of ex- istence officially on Dec. 31. On the very eve of the liquida- tion of the American Jewish Conference, a proposal to revive the body was made by the repre- sentatives of the influential La- bor Zionist body, the Jewish Na- tional Labor Alliance. An appeal signs d by David Pinsky, famous Yiddish author and president of the alliance, and by Louis Segal, secretary of the organization, expressed regret at the liquidation of the Conference and called for a revival of it in a new form. Segal amplified the appeal in an article in the Tog, in which he states that the liquidation of the Conference is particularly un- fortunate at this moment because the establishment of the Jewish State makes the existence of a central democratic authority in American Jewish life particular- ly necessary.
