Truce Irritating British Induce
Israel, Says Silver 5 Countries to
Bar Recognition
Jews Accuse U.S.
of Unfriendly Acts
NEW YORK (WNS) — Dr. Ab-
ba Hillel Silver, chairman of the
American section of the World
Zionist Organization, declared
following his return from Israel
that he "found the spirit of the
people in Israel at a high pitch of
confidence" but that they were
"restive under the truce."
Dr. Silver said the prevailing
sentiment among the people in
Israel is that our State Depart-
ment has put every obstacle in
the way of the full recognition
of Brad," that "it has blocked a
United States loan to the new
State" and that "it has interfered
with zones on the basis of an
unwarranted interpretation of
the terms of the truce."
ISRAEL WORRIES
Because the "feeling is preva-
lent that our State Department
is again following the lead of the
British Colonial and Foreign Of-
fices," he said, "there is, there-
fore, a growing concern as to the
attitude of the United States del-
egation at the coming session of
the United Nations in Paris."
He disclosed that the position
of Count Bernadotte had like-
wise suffered a serious decline
"as a result of his shocking pro-
posal to turn Jerusalem over to
Abdullah as his capital, and as
a result of his baffling and con-
tradictory opinions on the sub-
ject of the immigration of men
of military age into Israel."
HAILS DIVISION
Discussing the recent Zionist
actions committee meetings in
Israel, Dr. Silver reported that
the deliberations "were eminent-
ly successful" in meeting the
"chief problems" of separating
and defining the functions of the
World Zionist Movement and the
State of Israel and of reorganiz-
ing the work of the World Zionist
Movement so that "it' might gerve
most effectively in assisting the
State to absorb the large number
of immigrants who will wish to
settle in Israel."
Ile said the separation propo-
sals advocated by the American
Zionists were "finally accepted
by the entire movement." He list-
ed among the achievements of
the deliberations a resolution to
the effect that no part of the
lune% of' the World Zionist Or-
ganization should be contributed

ernment of Israel for any pur-
