to Tour U.S.

1)LANS FOR A TOUR of the
U. S. in September by an
all -Mai' Israeli soccer team
were announced this week in
Tel Aviv.
This will mark the first ap-
pearance of an
Israeli athletic
ensemble in
this country.
The coast - to -
coast engage-
ment of the
Hapoel soccer
team last fall
was held be-
fore Jewish
Statehood came

Undoubtedly, Detroit will , he
one of the host cities to the Is-
raeli m. When Hapoel played
here under Histadrut auspices,
more than 10,000 journeyed to
U. of D. stadium despite incle-
ment weather, a fine turnout
everything considered.
The Israeli squad will be com-
posed of outstanding performers
of the Maccabi, Betar and Ha-
poel teams.

iary, Jewish War Veterans, will
publish instead of advertisements
the names of children and adults
to be honored and will list me-
morials.
The Lt. Roy F. Green Auxil-
iary is offering a prize to the
member bringing in the most
names.
Among the children to be list-
ed will be Roy Greenberg, son
of the Russell Greenbergs, who
was named in memory of Lt.
Roy F. Green to whom the post
is dedicated.

RABBI SIMHA ASSAF, pro-
fessor of Gamic and Rabbinic
literature at the Hebrew Uni-
versity, Jerusalem, has been
elected rector of the univer-
sity for the academic years
1941-49 and 1949-50. The rec-
tor is academic head of the
school and serves as chairman
of the university senate and as
a member of the executive
council. Rabbi Assaf succeeds
Dr. Michael Fekete, professor
of mathematics.

Paula Padani, noted Israeli dancer, will perform before Jew-
ish refugees in 60 DP camps in Germany and Austria during
a current two-month tour sponsored by the Joint Distribution
Committee.

Motor Cycling Are

brings to mind Barney Barnett
of South Africa.
Barnett has been prominent in
motor cycle racing in the union
since 1930. He took part in the
Kimberley 100 about 16 years
ago, and until the outbreak of
the war competed in all big
events.

Veterans Hospital are always glad
when members of the Lt. Eli
Levin Auxiliary drop in for a
visit. ;
They know that everytime the
JWV ladies call on them, they
are in for a special treat.
On Thursday, for example, the
auxiliary put on an entertain-
ment program that the men aP-
plauded with much gusto.
Sharon Katz, talented 10-year-
old vocalist, presented several
songs, and 14 girls of the New-
stead Dancing School went
through a variety of routines.

has been named chairman of a
fifth region committee to draft
Myer Dorfman of St. Paul, Minn.,
as the next national commander
of the Jewish War Veterans.
Serving with Madison on the
committee is anoteer Detroiter,
Harold F. Moran, Michigan JWV
commander, who was named
treasurer.
Dorfman. merchant and manu-
facturer, was the unanimous
choice of the 14-state fifth re-
gion at a recent conference in
Louisville, Ky., to succeed Brig.
Gen. Julius Klein of Chicago at
the JWV national encampment

UHS. to Close Sunday
for Month's Vacation
The United Hebrew Schools
will close Sunday -for a month's
vacation.
Sessions will be resumed im-
mediately after Labor Day, when
registration will take place in
all branches.
