Pretty I6-year-old Dinah Room, an orphaned DP, arrived in
New York recently to live with new parents in a new land,
thus fulfilling an eight-year dream since her parents were
slaughtered by the Nazis. Her new parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Shickman, had never seen their adopted daughter, but for
two years had worked tirelessly through IIIAS to arrange
her immigration to the United States.

DP Bill Changes
NEW YORK — President Tru-
man was called upon in a tele-
slam sent by the American Jew-
ish Conference to urge upon the
special session of Congress the
adoption of amendments to the
Displaced Persons Act which
would change the DP measure
"from a threat to democracy to
a legislative enactment worthy of
American traditions."
The message, signed by Louis
Lipsky as chairman of the execu-
tive committee of the Confer-
ence, proposed amendments
which would insure that this
country will admit its fair share
of DP's as contemplated in the
Stratton Bill.
The American Jewish Confer-
ence, with headquarters at 521
Fifth avenue, is an over-all rep-
resentative body, composed of 62
affiliated national organizations
and delegates from the major
communities throughout the
country.
