Dr. Herbert I. Kallet has been
reelected for a second term as
president of Temple Beth El.
The annual meeting also saw
Sidney M. Shevitz was elected
S. Shapero reelected as
president of the Zionist Council Nate
of Detroit at a meeting last
week.
Others named were Leon B.
Kay, Sophia Blanche Schwartz
and Irving W. Schlussel, vice-
presidents; Sol Lifsitz, treasurer;
and Patricia liolden, secretary.
Elected to the executive com-
mittee were Benjamin Laikin,
Rabbi Leon Fram, Lawrence
Crohn, Philip Slomovitz, Morris
Jacobs, William Hordes, Morris
Lieberman, Mrs. Harry L Jones
and Bernard Schiff.
Seymour Tilchin, chairman of
the Detroit rally which saluted
Israel's rebirth, presented sou-
venirs of the demonstration to
Laikin upon his retirement from
the ZOD presidency.

Midtown Council
Invites 68 Groups
Sixty-eight organizations with
membership in the Twelfth street
area have been invited to send
representatives to the meeting
of the Midtown Neighborhood
Council at 8:15 p.m., June 8, in
Room 117 of Hutchins School. All
others who are interested are in-
vited to attend.
The major effort of the council
through the summer is expected
to be in the realm of recreation.

$5,250,000
Detroit has raised the record
total to date of $5,250,000 in the
1998 Allied Jewish Campaign,
Maurice Aronsson, chairman, an-
nounced Wednesday.
Spurred by the fine response,
with many contributors making
additional gifts on behalf of Ila-
ganah,' campaign workers have
reaffirmed their resolution to
keep on with the job until every
Jewish person in the city has
enlisted in Israel's battle by cc
tributing to the campaign.
