ris; one sister, Mrs. Charles Git-

pital Association and acted as

Prenzlauer Maternity Aid and

Knights of Pythias.
She was a member of the De-

Statesman Pledges
Aid to Polish Jews

A former labor minister of
both the prewar and present Pol-
ish regimes promised Detroit
Jewry Sunday that he would
urge the Polish government to
facilitate the departure of Jews
to Palestine and the United
States.
He is Dr. Jan Stanczyk, di-
rector of the social section of
the United Nations, who was
the guest of a representative
group of Detroit Rabbis and
communal leaders at a lunch-
eon in the home of Rabbi
Shlomo Gliksman, 2666 Tuxedo
avenue.

States of these essentials are
of incalculable help, he said.

COMES WITH CONSUL
Dr. Stanczyk was accompanied
by Tadeusz Frymar, Polish con-
sul in Detroit.
When the situation quietens
in Palestine, the Polish govern-
ment will return to its former
policy of granting visas to all
those Jews who wish to go
there, he assured the group. He
promised to forward the appeal
of the community that the
granting of passports to those
who can come here under Unit
ed States laws should not be
delayed.

DEAL REPUDIATED
MORE IMPORTANT than the
specific questions was the gen-
eral tone of the letter which
was one . of deep concern over
the reported rumors.
It was definitely a reminder
to Marshall that a considerable
section of official Republican
public opinion in Washington
would not enter into any kind
of a shabby deal to betray the
Jewish people to please the oil
magnates of America and the
Arabs, which was noised about
so much throughout the last
fortnight.
If there were some politicians
in Washington cynical hough
to believe that they could bring
about a deal between the two
political parties for an open
betrayal of the Jewish people
and for the dishonoring of the
promise of the American gov-
' ernment less than two months
after it was Publicly made i s
the world, they must haye been
greatly disappointed by the
events in the Capitol.

ACCLAIMS STATE
"I am happy that a Jewish
State is about to be created,"
Dr. Stanszyk declared. "All free-
dom loving people must fight to
assure the implementation of
the partition decision of the
UN."
The Jews who have been
moved to Lower Silesia have
become excellent farmers, he
told the group...In addition, he
said, many Jewish youths are
studying in trade schools and
are becoming splendid crafts-
men.
Starvation has been conquer-
ed in Poland he said' but the
people still need shoes and
clothing. Gifts from the. United
