at Labor Convention
at Chapter Meetings Tuesday

Mass Dancing of flora in N Y. Streets
Greets Joyous News of UN Decision

NEW YORK (Special)—The 24th annual Convention of the
National Committee for Labor Palestine Saturday was instantan-
eously converted from 'a routine gathering of delegates into the
greatest manifestation of Jewish joy seen in the city of New York,
when the first news of the United Nations decision on Palestine
was flashed on the air.
Crowds converged on the
meeting place, the St. Nicholas
arena, hours before the open-
ing, and the doors were closed
by the police after the first
5,000 had entered.
More than 6,000 others
jammed the streets neighboring
the arena and took charge of
their own celebration that con-
sisted of the Palestinian bora
allpinging that was unbounded
to y.

'FIRST PRESIDENT'
Inside the hall, a tremendous
ovation was given Dr. Chaim
Weizmann, who came to bless
the audience and recite the an-
cient Jewish prayer of "She-
/ hechvya nu".
The throng included bearded
sages who remembered the days
of Theodore Herzl, and young
boys and gins gasping at their
first glimpse of Dr. Weizmann,
who was introduced by Isaac
Hamlin as "the first President
of the Jewish State."
Dr. Weizmann,.visibly moved
by the UN decision and by the
outpouring of Jewish happiness,
expressed his thanks- to the
United States and the Soviet
Union for their backing of the
UN resolution, and stated his
belief that after one or two
years, peace with the Arab peo-
ples would be achieved.
Moshe Shertok, arriving from
his triumphant presentation of
the Jewish case at Flushing
Meadow, was given a similar
ovation by the crowd whose en-
thusiasm mounted with every
. moment as the historic night
went on.
