Teen-Age
Sophisticates

By HELEN TENNENBAUM

CIVILIZATION . . . Bonga,
bongs, bong. I'll stay where
I'm from . . . We do like it fine
right here where we can keep
an eager eye for news about
who's being entered and who's
being indorsed in the mighty
Youth Leadership Contest . . .
Boy, oh boy,
someone is go-
ing to be
mighty lucky
when they re-
ceive the mar-
velous prize of
a scholarship.
Come on, help
us by sending
in those bal-

lots . ..
Rumors have it that Sheldon
Otis will be the first Durfeeite
to be nominated. Shel is presi-
dent of the Unity Formit aAd
a prominent officer in the Dem-
olay Mosaic Chapter . . . Larry
Crantz, popular Centralite, has
also been mentioned.

GOIN' AND COMIN' . . .
Renee Shaer spent the holydays
in Pittsvile, Penn. . . . while
Detroit was the center of much
gayety as the lads from the
various colleges let us know.

WE ALL HAVE THE same in-
terests . . . Recently when your
reporter talked to Robert St.
John, the noted commentator, we
wondered hpw firmer feelings of
friendship could be established
amongst teenagers of this country
and the young people of Europe.
Mr. St. John replied: "A sure
link of friendship and under-
standing can be established if
you, in this country, try to make
friends through letter exchange
with young people in foreign
countries. Extend them your
hand in this way."
It is a fact, fellows and gals,
you'll receive a great deal of
pleasure out of foreign corre-
spondence . . . The other day we
received a letter from 15 year old
Vera Santo of Paris in which she
writes in excellent English, "I am
a great Zionist, I hope you are
too. My greatest wish is to go to
Palestine and to fight to win our
country back."
It is wonderful that, meanwhile,
thank the Almighty, the wonder-
ful dream of a Jewish State has
come true at last. May God's
blessing rest upon it
