Chapter I to Hear
Ex-Palestinean

Named JDA Director
A former resident of Palestine,
Julius Lev, will be guest speak-
er when Chapter I, Zionist Or-
ganization of Detroit, officially
opens its season at an open
meeting at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday
in the social hall of Bnai Moshe.
His topic will be "Palestine To-
day."
Tickets for the chapter's an-
nual autumn festival dance will
be on sale at the session.
Scheduled for Oct. 11 at Bnai
Moshe, the dance will feature
the music of Joe Moses.

Wayne IZFA
Two events are scheduled by
the Wayne University Chapter,
Intercollegiate Zionist Federa-
tion of America (IZFA), for
Tuesday at Wayne Hillel.
An open house in the form of
a get-acquainted social will take
place from 1 to 5 p.m. and a
meeting at 8:45 p.m. The eve-
ning's program will include a
movie on Palestine, dancing and
singing.

has been appointed executive
director of the Joint Defense
Appeal it has been announced
by Judge Joseph M. Pros-
kauer, president of the Amer-
ican Jewish Committee.

Classes in contract bridge will
be held on Tuesdays for 12
weeks at Central High School,
the Board of Education an-

William J. Rickenbacker, 'of
13334 Prest avenue, is a candi-
date for Common Council.
A disabled veteran of World
War I, Rickenbacker ran for a
council post in ?939, being de-
feated by a slight margin. He
is a self-educated man who
operates his own business at
5735 Cass avenue.
Rickenbacker was born in
New York City, where he at-
tended public school. He is a
sports enthusiast and at one
time was dirt-track racing cham-
pion of Michigan and Ohio.
As part of his platform, Rick-
enbacker has a plan to alleviate
the housing shortage and to
speed up transportation in De-
troit. He has drafted a blue-
print on means of easing the
traffic situation.,
Hebrew Ladies Aid
Plans Donor Luncheon
The annual donor luncheon
of the Hebrew Ladies Aid So-
ciety will be held Nov. 12 at
Bel-Aire.
Mrs. Alfreda Greenwald and
Mrs. Matilda Kepes are general
chairmen and Mrs. Ida Berko-
witz pledge chairman. Mrs.
Helen Rosenthal is president of
the society.

Carpets and Rugs, Inc., a new
specialty shop, has been opened
on Eight Mile road near De-
quindre.
Staffed entirely by ex-GI's
who were formerly connected
with floor covering firms in De-
troit, the store carries a com-
plete line of carpets, rugs, lino-
leum and other accessories. It
is open every evening.
Election Meeting Set

Rabbi Mordecai Paretzky, na-
tional field director of the
League for Religious Labor in
Palestine and a former De-
troit Rabbi, is here to conduct
the annual campaign of the
leagite. The religious labor
movement in Palestine, which
includes the Hapoel Hamiz-
richt Hashomer Iladati and
Onai Akibah youth groups,
is an active force in the up-
building of the land.
New officers of the Max Levy
Choir will be elected at the
group's first meeting of the sea-
son Friday evening, Sept. 26, at

Architect's drawing of buildings for the Ilebrew University-lladassah Medical
School on Mt. Scopus, Jerusalem, for which $4,000,000 is being raised in the United
States. Photo shows both existing and projected buildings which wilt provide
the first grade A medical school in the Middle East. It is expected the medical
center, which will include the present Rothschild-Hadassah-University Hospital,
will be ready to open its doors to students in 1948. New Buildings: (1) Library
and Administration Building; (2) Institute for Anatomy and Pathology; (3) In-
stitute for Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology; (4) Existing Nathan
Ratnoff Building for postgraduate medical research. Additions: (5) Out-patient
department to be added to Rothschild-Hadassah-University Hospital; (6) Wing to
be added to Henrietta Szold-Hadassah School of Nursing. Other buildings: (7)
Hadassah Tuberculosis Hospital; (8) Hebrew University buildings and (9) Pro-
jected university buildings.
