Just because a Jew goes to
the Synagogue on Yom Kippur,
that doesn't make him a better
man. You
have to be a
good Jew all
,the year
around not
just when sup-
plicating G o d
for something.
If a man
prays to God
on one day
during the
year, it doesn't
naturally follow that he becomes
a more honest, politically awake
citizen. The High Holy Days
don't influence people in their
everyday actions as much as we
would like to think. You have
to be good all year round, then
you don't have to plan to re-

If your belief in God and
your religion is strong when
you enter the Synagogue, then
you are a bet-
ter man when
you come out.
By reading the
Torah and
God's word of
law and wis-
dom, you be-
come a more
useful member
of your com-
munity.
Unless y o u
have something you can believe
, in, your life is fruitless. As far
as I'm concerned, without re-
ligion or belief in the God who
created this world, my life
would be worthless.

The Yom Kippur services are
so impressive that I can `t help
thinking about doing something
good in the
world. That, I
feel, makes me
a better Jew
and better cit-
izen.
Even though
the feeling is
momentary,
my senses tell
me that the
services do of-
AVIV
for a means
for the redemption of sins. After
Kol Nidre, I feel that I don't
have to work too hard to re-
mind myself that I must do bet-
ter during the next year.

1:41

DAVID GOLDFARB, 11620 Des-
te'r boulevard, barber.

When a man. leaves the Syna-
gogue after Kol Nidre, he's still
the same as when he went in.
The fact that
he prayed and
begged for-
giveness does
not mean he
will repent and
reform his
ways outside.
You don't do
God a favor
b y attending
the Synagogue.
A Jew has to
be good both during the holidays
and after they are over. Unless
the services can inspire men to
abide by God's rules faithfully,
they don't transform him into a
better Jew.
