QUESTION: Should the Jewish
Chronicle give preference to
local items, including social do-
ings, or should it increase its
national and international news
coverage!
r
MRS. ALBERT GORDON, 3359
Cortland avenue, housewife.
Tn my opinion, the Chronicle
'should increase its national and
International news coverage.
T have been
reading the
Chronicle for
the past five
years, and al-
though I enjoy
it very-mu c h,
there are some
stories in it that
do not partic-
ularly I n terest
me.
I have no-
f
ticed that a
great deal of space is devoted to
club news. Since persons usually
only read about the club of which
they are members, I think it
would he a good idea to mention
club actiVities very briefly and to
use the space saved for national
and international news, which Is
not covered sufficiently in other
papers.

I think the Chronicle should
' give preference to local Items. It
seems to me that most Jews
read Jewish papers because it
keeps them in-
formed about n
their neighbors.
They are inter-
ested in whcrgot
married, what
club is having a
party and events
of their com-
munity in gen-
eral.
National and
international
news pertinent olmk
to Jews, if of any importance, is
usually carried in the daily pa-
pers. The dailies on the other
hand, do not cover the social do-
ings in our community to any
great extent.

have been reading the Chron-
icle for the past three or four
. years and,' I like it just as it is
now.
Your column-
ists do a won-
derful job in
presetting i n-
sidelights about
Jewish affairs,
which cannot he
found in the
dailies, and
your coverage
of local news
seems to be very
thorough.
I believe it Is
vital for the Chronicle to cover
national and international news
as completely as possible. But
I think this can still be done
without cutting down' on local
news.

Personally, I enjoy reiNing both
local and national and interna-
tional news. If the Chronicle were
to increase its national and in-
ternational coverage, I think it
should not do
so by reducing
local news but
b y increasing
the size of the
paper.
Papers such
as the Chron-
icle furnish the
best medium for
Jews to keep
abreast of Jew-•
ish develop-
ments. The
dailies devote hardly any space to
events affecting Jews exclusively.
Also, Jews are interested in wed-
dings and social affairs within
their community and sometimes
the only way they find out about
them is by reading the Chronicle.
