TIME: Tuesday afternoon.

PLACE: Dexter and Lawrence.
QUESTION: What was your re-
action to the hanging of Day
Gruner and the three other
' members of the Jewish Resist-
ance in Palestine?

' IRWIN WRIGHT, 2705 Fullerton,
Wayne pharmacy student.
I expected the British to do
that. The British will do anything
they can to
keep Palestine
in turmoil and
make the situa-
tion appear as
though the Brit-
ish were abso-
lutely essential
to peace and
order. This has
been consistent
British policy.
The Brit I s h
were not justified in hanging Gru-
ner. They certainly were not act-
ing according to democratic prin-
ciple and their actions can only
be explained as the necessary
moves of imperialistic power.
The British cannot be trusted
to keep their word on the man-
date. The only way the Jews can
get their National Homeland is to
keep fighting and to keep the
problem before the eyes of the
world. The only way the British
can be made to act in our favor
is by broad public pressure, and if
we don't continue to fight, Britain
will quietly sell us out.

The shock of Gruner's execution
was so great that I could not con-
tinue working. I left my business
and went home.
I never expect-
ed England to
go as far as
this. The Jew-
ish people have
done so much
for England

though England
could betray
them.
The English
can never make good the death
of these men. But they can mot:-
crate the effects of their unjust
set by immediately allowing 100,-
000 JCW3 to enter Palestine. But
the Jews can no longer trust Brit-
ain to carry out the mandate

I didn't think they were going
to hang - them. There was such a
world-wide pro-
test at the very
idea of hanging
these men that
I didn't think
the British
would dare go
ahead with the
execution.
T h e British
did not have
any right to
hang them.
They don't have capital pun
ment for criminals in Michigan,
and Gruner certainly was not a
criminal. He was fighting for a
good and understandable cause.
This means the Jews can't look to
the British for any kind of fair
action.

I was surprised. These men were
not criminals and I don't believe
there should be capital punish-
ment for polit-
ical acts. Any-
one loOking at
the facts would
say there was
sufficient justi-
fication for
what they did.
There was no
justification in
executing them.

honor in English history.
