Get Candy in 'Sweet Land of Liberty' Centers Aide Sent
to South America
NEW YORK: To provide tech-
nical and professional guidance to
Jewish community centers or to
develop such centers, the newly-
organized World Federation of
YMHAs and Jewish Community
Centers has sent its first field
representative to South America.

NEW YORK—The Mizrachi Or-
ganization of America has an-
nounced its withdrawal from the
Vaad Hatzalah Relief Committee
and the launching of an inde-
pendent one-half million dollar
emergency relief drive for Euro-
pean religious Jewry.
The move came about as a re-
sult of charges lodged at a World
Mizrachi Rescue Conference that
the Vaad Hatzalah discriminated
against European Mizrachi mem-
bers In meting out relief supplies.
The conference heard 50 Mizra-
chi representatives representing
more than 12,000 Mizrachl and Ha-
poel Hamizrachi members file
complaints that religious DP's
were evidently being starved out
in an effort to force them into the
ranks of the Agudas Israel move-
ment.
LAUNCH CAMPAIGN
American Mizrachi has launched
an Intensive, nationwide campaign
known as the "United Rescue and
Rehabilitation Fund" which is un-
der the joint supervision of the
Mizrachl Organization, the Miz-
raehl Women's Organization, and
the Hapoel Hamizrachi.
The Vaad Hatzalah, in answer to
the Mizrachl Charge stated that
since its inception in 1939, all in-
structions transmitted to its Eu-
ropean representatives stress the
importance of distributing Vaad
Hatzalah funds ofr the religious
welfare of Jews impartially and
without regard to party affili-
ations.
The Vaad Hatzalah knows noth-
ing about the instances of dis-
crimination specified In the Miz-
rachi report, it said.

Mizrachl members are repre-
sented in all Vaad Hatzalah activi-
ties and posts both here and
abroad, the Vaad said. It is con-
tinuing to give aid to religious
groups abroad irrespective of
Aguda or Mizrachi affiliation, it
declared, adding that the Vaad
Hatzalah has just issued a report
to UNRRA Indicating the estab-
lishment of over 48 religious
schools and kosher kitchens in
the DP Camps.

children of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hasson, who found refuge at the
IIIAS shelter in New York after escaping death in Rome. The

when Italy cast her lot with the Allies. They are to join Los
Angeles relatives.
