By DR. PERRY • P. BURNSTINE
40 Percent of Goal
Reached in Drive
Isaac Hamlin, national secretary
of the Histadrut campaign, will be
the guest speaker at the Histadrut
rally Thursday in the Rose Sittig
Cohen auditorium.
Hamlin helped organize the
first American Histadrut campaign
more than 20 years ago and has
been the driving force in Hista-
drut activities in America.
10 PERCENT RAISED
More than 40 percent of the
'175,000 quota of the 1947 cam-
paign here has been achieved at
the end of the fourth week. Morris
Lieberman, executive board chair-
man, has challenged workers to
show maximum results in the next
few weeks pointing out that the
Palestine crisis makes it impera-
tive that funds be made available
for the continuation of the Hista-
drut program of rebuilding the
Homeland.
Theodore Olender, chairman of
the youth committee, reported that
THE DEPARTMENT has re-
ceived much commendation for
sponsoring its fourth annual pa-
triotic Military Ball on Washing-
ton's Birthday, Feb. 22, and dedi-
cating it to the success of the Uni-
ted Nations. Among letters of
praise have been those of Mayor
Jeffries of Detroit, Mayor Broial
or-Wy andotte, Milton Richman,
JWV national commander, and
George Fredman, editor' of the
National Jewish War Veteran.
Many organizations are arrang-
ing for large parties to attend the
ball at the Masonic. The news of
the 12-piece dance orchestra plus
a ex-piece rhumba band and of
performances by the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary drill team
and the JWV drill team has in-
duced thousands to purchase tick-
ets for the gala affair.
•Over 1,500 patron tickets have
been sent to leaders of Detroit and
state Jewry. Large delegations
from Flint, Lansing and Wyan-
dotte will be present.
Stations WJR and CKLW and
the the Jewish radio hours of
WJBK and WJLB have volun-
teered time for the Department
goodwill radio programs featuring
the Military Ball and the aims of
the JWV.
The Department's 40th goodwill
radio broadcast will be sponsored
by CKLW at 12 noon Thursday,
Feb. 13.
The Military Ball committee will
meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at
headquarters.
