Adoption Perils
(Continued from page 3) '
The state also protects the
child and its rights, since it is
an innocent and helpless pawn
in the process. The state also
wishes to know that the pro-
spective parents are financially,
emotionally and otherwise suited
to raising a child and that the
child will ; receive at least nor-
mal care.
The state usually requires a
waiting period of six months to a
year, during which time-and af-
ter a detailed investigation of the
prospective adopting parents -
there is an opportunity to observe
the parents, to observe the child,
to make certain that all parties
are healthy, suitable and satisfied.
Thereupon, the adoption process
becomes legally final and the child
is yours.
