Jews' Birth Rate
Soars in Palestine

NEW YORK (Palcor) — "The
Jewish birth rate in Palestine is
definitely climbing and Jewish doc-
tors there have reduced the in-
fant mortality rate even lower,
than in America," a health de-
partment official reported in Tel
Aviv.
Jewish Agency statistics of 1943-
45 list Jewish births in Palestine
at 25 for each 1000 population;
while the 1945-46 figure is esti-
mated officially as ''30 or beyond."
The Arab birth rate is recorded
at 48 for each 1000 population but
the Arab infant mortality rate is
140 for each 1000 births as against
a Jewish rate of 50 infant deaths
for each 1000 births. In the United
States and Canada, more than 60
babies among every 1000 die dur-
ing their first year.
"Good healthy children with nor-
mal life and the increasing birth-
rate provide Jewish Palestine with
an 'internal immigration' source
which cannot be checked by White
Papers, naval blockades or de-
portation camps," Jewish Agency
officials say.
