New Yorker Gives Entire Year's

Rabbi Urges Aid

ognized the urgency of the need

Samuel Goldfarb is a man who
doesn't believe In doing things by
halves. According to this New
Yorker, to believe in a cause Is
to act. That is why Mr. Goldfarb
is currently conducting a one-man
campaign on behalf of the 1946
United Jewish Appeal for Refu-
gees, Overseas Needs and Pales-
tine. That is why his gift this
year is one of the largest contri-
butions ever made.
When the historic Atlantic City
conference adopted the $100,000,-
000 quota for the United Jewish
Appeal to meet the unprecedented
needs of the Joint Distribution
Committee, United Palestine Ap-
peal and the National Refugee
Service, Mr. Samuel Goldfarb rec-

and swung into action.
He sat down and discussed the
entire matter with his family.
They all agreed to the basic prin-
ciple that the welfare of the Jew-
ish survivors of Europe was as
vital as that of the immediate
family. They figured out their en-
tire possible income for the year,
deducted enough to cover taxes
and living expenses and then con-
tributed the remainder to the
United Jewish Appeal. Mr. Gold-
farb's contribution to the UJA in
1945 was $3,000. His gift to the
UJA in 1946 amounted to $50,000.
And if anyone needs help in
working out that formula, this
one-man campaign crusader will
be glad to show him how.

shekel once they reach the age of
18.
American Jewry awakened to
its central role in the world Jew-
ish scene today, must demonstrate
its readiness to fill the gap left
by the destruction of European
Jewry. Every eligible Jewish man
and woman must stand up and
be counted.
The Labor and Progressive Bloc
for the World Jewish Congress,
consisting of all branches of the
Labor Zionist Movement, has set
itself a minimum quota of 500,-
000 shekolim to be sold before
the elections which will take
place in mid-June. Dan Pines, co-
editor of Palestine's Daily, "Da-
var," who is in this country now
in behalf of the Histadrut, is di-
recting the Labor Zionist Cam-
paign for shekolim.
Mr. Pines was received by the
Mayor of New York City, who
welcomed him in the name of the
city and declared his readiness to
render whatever aid he can in the
interest of Mr. Pines' Histadrut
mission to America. The same day
the New York City Council unan-
imously adopted a resolution wel-
coming Mr. Pines and expressing
fullest sympathy with Jewish as-
pirations and efforts toward the
establishment of t h e Jewish
Homeland.

The Labor Zionist Movement of
America in all its branches
adopted a minimum quota of
500,000 shekolim in the general
campaign for the enrollment of
all American Jewry within the
ranks of the World Zionist Or-
ganization prior to the next
Zionist Congress which will be
held in Palestine in August, and
which will be the first Congress
since 1039. The present world
Jewish scene and the paramount
position Palestine has assumed in
that scene make it one of the
most crucial of all Zionist Con-
gresses.
Jews all over the world now
have the opportunity to demon-
strate clearly and unequivocally
their united determined stand on
the question of Palestine. The
Shekel is the non-party means
whereby the Jewish nation elects
its delegates to the World Zion-
ist Congress through popular
democratic elections. The number
of delegates each party in Zion-
ism is entitled to is determined
not by the number of shekel re-
ceipts it transmits to the World
Zionist Organization but solely by
the votes it musters. The shekel
itself is essentially a form of reg-
istration as member of the W.Z.-

right to vote. All Jews through-
