At no time in their long and eventful history have the Jewish
people had more reason to rejoice than they have today.
It is with mingled feelings of gladness and of misgiving that
we approach this season of the changing years. We rejoice that the
New Year dawns for a world that is nominally at least at peace
and in which "nation no more lifts up sword against nation." We
are glad that many of our boys will soon return to homes and
dear ones after their heroic sacrifices in the cause of democracy
and freedom. We raise a paeon of praise to God that Might has
