FOX — "A Bell for Adano,"
John Hersey's Pulitzer prize-win-
ning story of the American occu-
pation of a small Italian town,
has been translated to the screen
in a screenplay that retains all
the values which made the book
great. Although the locale is in
war-torn Italy, the story is made
up mainly of human equations;
the down-to-earth reactions of be-
wildered people to their libera-
tors.
Louis D. Lighton, who has to
his credit "A Tree Grows in
Brooklyn," "Lives of a Bengal
Lancer," "Skippy," is the pro-
ducer; Henry King, who directed
"Wilson" and "The Song of Ber-
nadette," is the director; and the
screen story is by LaMarr Trotti,
who won the Academy Award for
1944's best original story ("Wil-
son").
