Bingay Portrays American Nazis;
Says U. S. Is Awakened to Peril
Any American who has hatred
i n his heart, especially religious
it r racial hatred, is following in
t h e f,,otsteps of Hitler and is
a Nazi at heart. This was the
message that Malcolm W. Bin-
ga y, editorial director of the
Detroit Free Press, conveyed to
an audience of nearly 1,000
which packed the Shaarey Zedek
Social Hall Wednesday night. Mr.
Bingay spoke at a bond rally
held under the auspices of the
Shaarey Zedek Men's Club.
Mr. Bingay declared that there
is at present a rising tide of
bigotry and religious and racial
hatred in America. He called this
tide nascent Nazism. He declared
it is being fanned by rabble
rousers who are getting money
from foolish businessmen who
think they need "protection".
The speaker warned that any-
one who countenances abuses in
government, who is resigned to
being ruled by corrupt political
bosses, who shrugs his shoulders
when he sees minorities wronged,
is paving the way for Nazism.

"We are our brothers' keep-
ers," declared Mr. Bingay. "We
must have a sense of individual
responsibility. There is no sense
of personal guilt in Germany,
and that is the root of Nazism.
"I don't think Nazism is go-
ing to come here. We'll be
aroused in time acs to what racial
and religious hatred really
means. The veterans have seen
th e German horror camps. They
know what it means. They are

Mr. Bingay called for a renais-
sance, a rebirth of individual
responsibility, of community con-
sciousness, based on the Ten
