JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle

Center Day Camp
Opens on June 25

NEW YORK (WNS).—
An agreement was signed
here this week reconstitut-
ing the United Jewish Ap-
peal for Refugees, Overseas
Needs and Palestine as the
combined national fund-
raising body for overseas re-
lief and rehabilitation, for
the upbuilding of the Jew-
ish homeland in Palestine
and for refugee aid in the
United States.

The Joint Distribution Com-
mittee, the United Palestine Ap-
peal and the National Refugee
Service have reached an agree-
ment to resume unified fund-
raising activities. It was stated
that the estimated needs of the
agencies comprising the United
Jewish Appeal amount to more
than $80,000,000 for the current
year. Last year American Jews
contributed approximately $30,-
000,000 to the United Jewish
Appeal.
The United Jewish Appeal de-
clared:
"The separate appeals which
have been conducted by the con-
stituent bodies during the past
four months have been aban-
doned and all funds raised in
behalf of the Joint Distribution
Committee, United Palestine Ap-
peal and National Refugee Serv-
ice throughout 1945 will be dis-
tributed among these agencies in
accordance with a mutually ac-
ceptable formula.
"The needs of the organiza-
tions represented in the United
Jewish Appeal are far greater
this year than ever before (lur-
ing the past 12 years of suffer-
ing and destruction for the Jew-
ish people. The budgetary esti-
mates of the Joint Distribution
Committee, United Palestine Ap-
peal and National Refugee Ser-
vice are in excess of $80,000,000
in 1945. This unprecedented sum
represents a challenge to the gen-
erosity of Jews in every com-
munity in the United States.
"Victory in Europe has un-
rolled before us a scene of inde-
scribable devastation, widespread
distress and mass homelessness
which have affected the surviving
Jews with deepest intensity. It is
imperative that American Jewry
provide assistance on the largest
possible scale for the hundreds
of thousands who look to us for
aid in their physical, cultural
and communal needs. We must
also plan for the settlement in
Palestine of additional great
masses and make possible their
re-integration there and the
building of a new life of freedom
and security for them in the
Jewish homeland."

Leaders of the Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths partici-
pated in a Round Table Broadcast over Station WJR on Memorial
Day, arranged by the Detroit Round Table of Catholics, Jews and
Protestants. They are (left to right). Naiph Abodaher, radio chair-
man, Banking Division, Michigan War Finance Committee; Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer, Rabbi of Temple Beth El; Bishop Donald 13
Aldrich, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, and Rev.
Joseph A. Foley, S. J., University of Detroit, Student Counsellor.

Does Life Insurance
Give Good Value?

"Good value" to most of us
means "getting our money's
worth." These days particularly,
each dollar spent must contrib.
ute substantially to the family's
welfare.

But the family budget has its
limitations—some things we can.
not afford to buy; other things
we cannot afford to do without.

In planning for the future, life
insurance is as necessary as food,
clothing and shelter. The Great.
West Life can provide you with
a policy designed to suit your
particular needs. Full details will
be given without obligation.
