Hadassah Opens
$85,000 Drive
A drive for $85,000 was
launched Tuesday by the Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah at its lunch-
eon at Hotel Statler which in-
augurated the 1945-46 Honor
Roll campaign. The Hadassah is
seeking $60,000 for its regular
activities, and in addition, $25.-
000 toward the building of a
200-bed tuberculosis sanitarium
in Jerusalem. Mrs. Sidney J.
Allen is the Honor Roll chair-
man, while Mrs. Dorah Ehrlich
heads the hospital fund drive.
About 400 women attended
the luncheon and heard Dr. Carl
Hermann Voss of Pittsburgh. ex-
ecutive secretary of the Chris-
tian Council for Palestine. Dr.
Voss declares that from the
Christian point of view the set-
tlement of the Jewish problem
in Palestine would help the whole
world.
The solution of the Jewish
problem is part of the Christian
world problem, the speaker as-
serted, and therefore, must be
solved by Christians. He declar-
ed that the Christian world can-
not be blamed for not under-
standing the Jewish problem be-
cause there are so many world
problems. He urged the Hadas-
sah members to be more artic-
ulate and to inform the Chris-
tian world what is happening in
Jewry. He stated that, in his
opinion, the majority of Jews
wanted Palestine.
Dr. Voss called anti-Semitism
a blot on civilization. He told
of the work done by the Chris-
tian friends of a Jewish Home-
land in Palestine and praised the
Histadrut as being the only labor
group in the world which pleaded
for more immigrants.
