tally to lay firm foundations for
the future of agriculture and in-
dustry in the country. It has
been one of the bright spots in
the difficult task of the Allied
forces in the Middle East that
they were able to draw upon the
high degree of skill which our
young men have acquired. Not
only in Palestine have they been
manufacturing innumerable com-
modities to meet the army needs,
as varied as textile for army
clothing and crystals for radio
transmission and land mines for
use against the enemy, but they
have been asked to serve so far
afield as Eritrea, where they have
been doing skilled work in air-
craft plants and in Abadan in
southern Persia in the very up-
to-date oil refinery establishment
there.
The Yishuv, by persevering in
its claim to the right of the Jews
to establish a Jewish fighting
force, has rendered further great
service to the Jewish cause. To-
day the slight upon Jewish honor
has been removed by the estab-
lishment of a Jewish brigade
group of some 8,000 young men.
This group of Jewish young men,
mainly from Palestine, are the
first who have been set up in
this war to take the field against
the great enemy of our people

ped, Jewish fighting unit. They

cers in the Hebrew language,
and all the members of this Jew-,
ish fighting force will proudly
bear the emblem of the Shield
of David on their arm.
Prepare for Peace
The Jewish Agency in Palestine
has been actively engaged in pre-
paring plans for the future of the
country and our people. The
main problems will be to arrange
for the adjustment of our war-
time economy to peacetime re-
quirements with the minimum dis-
location possible, to lay the basis
for the absorption of large num-
bers of new immigrants into
agriculture, for the industrial de-
velopment which will be neces-
sary to provide for the needs
of the growing Jewish popula-
