Women's Auxiliary of
Jewish Home for Aged
The Women's Auxiliary of the
Jewish Home for Aged met at
the Home on Monday, Nov. 20.
Mrs. N. J. Lippitt presided. Mrs.
David Kliger, chairman of the
entertainment committee, provid-
ed an excellent program consist-
ing of Mandy Gelb and Stewart
Davis, child dancers, who were
accompanied by Mrs. Jesse Ros-
en.
Reports which were read show-
ed a number of purchases made
for the Home, including mattress
pads, gowns and kitchen utensils.
Curtains, blankets and mattress
covers also are now being pur-
chased to help make the residents
even more comfortable.
Many donations have been
made to the new Ada Gorelick
Memorial Fund, as well as to the
regular Simcha and Memorial
Fund. Members showed an en-
thusiastic response to the sale of
War Bonds. The Auxiliary is
pledged to esll $25,000 worth
under the capable direction of
War Bond chairman, Mrs. Rose
Koven, who will be glad to con-
tact any purchaser. She can be

Mrs. Chapman, a native of De-
troit, appeared in both light and
grand opera in Detroit, Chicago,
Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and other
cities of the middle West. She
has sung with many of the major
Symphony Orchestras throughout
the country. Mrs. Chapman, who
will be accompanied at the piano
by Lillian Mumford, will sin;
songs by Schubert, Schumann,
Giannini, Naginski, and Hage-
man.
Max Weiner, who was also
born in Detroit, is a member of
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
He received his early training at
the Jewish Community Center.
He will be accompanied by Re-
becca Frohman. For his program
Mr. Weiner has chosen composi-
tions by Desplanes, Fioco, Lalo,
Debussy, and Wieniawsky, as well
as the famous "Nigun" by Bloch,
and "The Chassid" by Julius
Chajes, Music Drector of the
Center.

Home Relief Society
To Hear Mrs. Oberstein
In Book Review Nov. 27
The Home Relief Society will
have Mrs. Gertrude Oberstein re-
view "Earth and High Heaven,"
one of the leading and most dis-
cussed books of the year, on
Monday, Nov. 27, at 1 p. m. at
the home of Mrs. Nathan Tarnow,
2284 Longfellow. A dessert
luncheon at 1 p. m. will precede
the meeting and program of the
afternoon. Mrs. Tarnow will be
assisted by Mrs. Peter Miller,
hostess chairman, and her com-
mittee. The guest speaker will
be introduced by Mrs. Sam Ar-
kin, chairman of the day.
Mrs. Irving H. Small, president
of the Home Relief Society, and
Mrs. Al Weisman, program chair-
man, extend a cordial invitation
to all members and guests to at-
tend.
All members and friends are

when buying War Bonds and
Stamps for the Sixth War Loan
Drive. Through Mrs. Marks' ef-
forts, $608,125.00 worth of Bonds
have been sold since the end of
January of this year. It is hoped
that Home Relief Society will
be able to reach its goal of $1,-
000,000 by the end of the Sixth
War Loan Drive.

A smoker is being planned by
the Men's Club of Temple Israel
for the first week in December
and it will be open to the entire
male membership of the Congre-
gation and the Men's Club.
The Men's Club will hold reg-
ular services Friday, Dec. 1, on
which occasion Nathaniel Gold-
stick will deliver the sermon.
The board of directors have
made all arrangements to be
hosts at the USO on Christmas
Day, Dec. 25, from 4 to 7 p. m.
Irving Small has been unani-
mously selected for the most im-
portant role of the evening's fes-
tivities at the USO.
At the Sabbath Eve services
of Temple Beth El on Friday,
Dec. 1, at 8:15, Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer will speak on "The Four
Basic Fears of Americans"—How
Will They Affect the Four Free-
doms? What Can We Do to
Overcome Them?
The musical program will be
rendered by our Temple quartet,
with Julius Chajes directing and
Jason Tickton at the organ. A
social hour, under the auspices
of the Temple Sisterhood, will
follow the services.
Youth Education League
Holds Board Meeting
A board meeting was held at
the home of Mrs. Robert Lewis-
ton, president of the Youth Edu-
cation League, on Monday, Nov.
20. Mrs. Douglas Purther assist-
ed as co-hostess. Mrs. H. J. Mill-
man, War Chest zone chairman,
gave her report, at which time
special thanks were given to Mrs.
Harry Goodman and Mrs. Phillip
Olender, chairmen of War Chest,
who so capably, together with
their team, completely covered
their area and succeeded in go-
ing over their quota.
Mrs. James V. Browne, chair-
man of the pledge fund drive,
announced the drive as being
under way, with each captain and
her team having individual meet-
ings this week. Mrs. Sidney Kalt
is co-chairman of the affair.
A bond report was given by
the chairman, Mrs. Adolph Lich-
ter. who stated the drive was on
and $3. 4,000 of their $40,000
quota has already been reached.
Mrs. Harry Goodman cleared
the date of Jan. 13 to serve the
Friday night supper at the Rom-
ulus Air Base.
A check for $25.00 was sent
to the Ruth Alden Dress Fund.
A rehabilitation program was
discussed and will be presented
to the body at large to vote upon.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Albert
Bloom on 19125 Kingston Rd.

The Polonner Woliner Aid As-
sociation was organized for the
purpose of aiding Jewish war suf-
ferers in the province of Volhy-
nia, Ukraine, especially in the
area around Polonnoye, Chudnov,
Romanov and surrounding towns.

Dr. Franz Klein, editor, author
and authority on European af-
fairs, is the speaker for the De-
troit Town Hall in the Cass
Theater Friday morning., Dec. 1,
at 11 o'clock. Dr. Klein, distin-
guished journalist of great expe-
rience, will have for his subject.
"America Between Britain and
Russia."
Dr. Klein came to America by
convoy in 1941 to be the North
American correspondent for the
Basle "National Zeitung." He
has been a very popular lecturer
during the past year in Canada
and the United States.

honored at a luncheon at the
