Para-Ski Troopers

Mrs. Isidore Freedman, national vice-chairman of the Jewish
Council for Russian War Relief, presents an RWR service pin to
Harold 0. N. Frankel, Greater New York chairman of the Council,
in the presence of Soviet Vice-Consul Michael S. Vavilov. Mrs.
Freedman, who is also president of the Women's Branch of the
Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, represented the Jewish
Council's national administrative committee at a reception at which
350 active New York volunteers received service awards. She
reported to the gathering that during the three months of Marc:1,
April and May, the Jewish Council for Russian War Relief collected
475,000 lbs. of clothing, 34,000 household emergency kits, as
well as quantities of drugs and medical books. The total value of
these gifts was approximately $575,000. The 12-month goal, set
at the Council's national conference on Feb. 28, is $2,000,000 worLh
of supplies.

When will this war end? Nobody
knows, so the Army is continuing
its training of Para-Ski Troopers.
They're parachute troops who know
their way about on skis or any other
place in snow covered mountainous
country.

A great measure of the success of
Russia's victories last winter is at-
tributed to these troops who move
with the silence of a snowflake. Our
work on the home front is not so
hazardous as that of the Para-Ski
Troopers but it is important that
we perform our daily tasks and
make every effort to increase our
regular purchase of War Bonds. •
