On Monday evening, March 6,
Mrs. Joseph Markel (Doris Sper-
ling) of 18678 Greenlawn Ave.
entertained a group of young
married women in the 6 and 7
Mile Road area. This group met
to discuss the social and cultural
needs of that district. The 35
women who responded to her in-
vitation were most enthusiastic
about forming such an organi-
zation. First, for cultural activi-
ties for themselves, and second,
to provide an outlet for the lei-

sure time of the youngsters in
that neighborhood.
The co-hostesses who assisted
Mrs. Markel in receiving were
Mrs. Alex Brooks and Mrs. Saul
Rosenhause. Miss Mary Caplan of
the Jewish Community Center,
and Mrs. Lillian Ussher, secre-
tary of the Detroit Group Work-
ers and Recreation Division of
the Council of Social Agencies
were consultants of the evening.
The next meeting of the group
will be held at the home of Mrs.
Eugene Frantzblau, 18651 Rose-
lawn, on Monday evening, March
20, at 8:30 p. m. T. Czerkowski,
director of club work at the Mer-
rill Palmer School, will lead the
group in a discussion on "Under-
standing Our Children".

Holiday Hop

The seventh holiday hop of
the Jewish Community Center
will be a pre-Passover dance on
Sunday, April 2, at 9 p. In. Russ
Weaver and his Orange-Blossom
Orchestra will play for the event.
Prizes will be given and refresh-
ments will be available.

War Workers to Hold
Spring Festival March 25

The War Workers of the Jew-
ish Community Center will have a
spring festival on March 25, in
the auditorium. There will be

A new marriage course for
girls is being held at the Jewish
Community Center on Thursday
evening at 8:30 p. in. Betty Kor-

Entertains Veterans

Detroit Ladies' Auxiliary No.
135, Jewish War Veterans, en-
tertained Marine Hospital Vet-
erans on Monday, March 13, with
a grand show which featured
Hannah Williams and her accom-
panist, Frank Gusto, who outdid
themselves in an effort to enter-
tain the sick and wounded. These
Broadway stars were furnished
through the courtesy of Jack
Ross of the Terrace Gardens.
Each boy was presented with a
package of cigarettes and decks
of cards. Mrs. Henrietta Niman
presented gifts of 25 silver dol-
lars in American Flag folders to
25 of the most dese,rving boys
of this war in honor of her anni-
versary. Ruth Schrieber, hospital
chairman, was in charge of ar-
rangements. Lillian E. Fink is
president.
