A very impressive ceremony
was solemnized when Hate11
Grantz, (laughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Grantz of Monica Ave,,
was married to Harry Shifman,
son Of Mr. and Mrs. Max Shif-
man of 2554 Elmhurst, last Sun-
day evening at the Reviera Hall,
on Joy Road. Rabbi Eiseman of
the Ben Jacob Synagogue officiat-
ed.
Conforming with the times, the
ceremony was performed in mili-
tary style with Ben Shifman, bro-
ther of the groom as best man.
Ted Grantz, brother of the bride,
Seymour Tarnoff, Jack Tarnoff,
Sidney Gassel prosecuting at-
torney of Alpena, William Utley,
Albert ("Bud") Schweig, as ush-
ers. Mrs. Sidney Gassell of Al-
pena, sister of the bride as matron
of honor, Larry Grantz as ring
bearer and Rasalie Shifman as
flower girl.
110 guests attended the dinner
at 8 p. m. and an additional 130
attended the reception afterward
(from 9 p. m. until midnight).
The Ben Jacob congregation pre-
sented the newly married couple
with a silver candelebra. Miss
Rose Cohen Orchestra played for
the dancing. Mr. Morris Podolsky
led the guests in Hebraic folk
songs.
Mr. and Mrs. Shifmon left for
two weeks honeymoon in New
York City.

Rabbi Israel Porath
To Address Yeshivah
Semi-Annual Meeting

Rabbi Isaac Stollman, president
of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah an-
nounces that the second semi-an-
nual membership meeting of the
Yeshivah will be held on Sunday,
Nov. 22, at 7:00 p. m. in the
Yeshivah Building, Dexter at
Cortland.
Rabbi Israel Porath of Cleve-
land, Ohio, will be the guest-
speaker. Rabbi Porath, one of the

outstanding rabbinical personali-
ties of the Middle West, is known
as the author of learned books
and as an excellent orator.
The chairmen of the various
committees of the Yeshivah will
read brief reports of the achieve-
ments of the institution and the
further development of the Yeshi-
cah will be discussed by the mem-
bership.
The lecture will also mark the
official start of the membership
drive which had to be postponed
on account of the war chest.

Donor Luncheon Dec. 16

The Ladies Auxiliary of Con-
gregation Bnai David are spon-
soring their yearly donor lunch-
eon at the Bnai David social hall,
Elmhurst and 14th, at 12:30.
Mrs. B. Margolis, who is chair-
man of the luncheon can be reach-

Mrs. E. Rosen has charge of
the tickets and can also be reach-

The president, Mrs. Z. Needles
urges all the members of the
Auxiliary and members of Con-
gregation Bnai David to assist

Dr. and Mrs. Geza Schinagel
of 73 Easen, Highland Park, an-
nounce the marriage of their sis-
ter, Miss Ruth Salgo to Bela
Vandor of Cleveland, Ohio. The
marriage took place Sunday, Nov.
8. Mr. and Mrs. Vandor will
reside in Cleveland.

The Hebrew Ladies Aid Society
had a delightful rally on Tuesday
at the Dexter Lawrencellall.
The next committee meeting
for the donor will be held on
Thursday, Nov. 12.
The donor will be held on Dec.
8 and a surprise entertainment
is promised.

Last Membership
Enrollment Meet of
U. H. S. Held Nov. 5

The closing meeting of the
membership enrollment effort of
the United Hebrew Schools was
held last Thursday evening, Nov.
5, in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Landau. Very incourag-
ing reports were submitted by all
the workers.
Aaron A. Silberblatt, the chair-
man of this effort, pointed out
that this is the first time in many
years that a considerable num-
ber of new members have been
enlisted for the United Hebrew
Schools. Dr. Albert E. Bernstein,
the associate chairman, spoke in
the same vein expressing very
much satisfaction over the out-
come of this annual effort.
Judge and Mrs. Harry B. Kei-
dan were the guests of honor of
this gathering. The judge, in his
remarks, stated that there are
two outstanding institutions in
which he is vially interested, and
that is the synagogue and the
United Hebrew Schools.
Cantor Jacob H. Sonenklar,
who comes to these meetings not
only as a Cantor but as a friend
and a worker, led the gathering
in group singing. He also ren-
dered several vocal solos.

tive in this annual membership

Habonim Mothers To
Hold Dinner Dec. 6

In keeping with their annual
tradition, the Mothers of Habonim,
Labor Zionist Youth, are prepar-
ing a community dinner at the
workmen's Circle Center, Sunday,
Dec. 6. Meals will be served
from noon until late in the eve-
ning. As in the past, the Hab-
onim will wait on tables and pro-
vide entertainment. Members of
the Labor Zionist movement and
parents of Habonim are especial-
ly urged to reserve this date.
The first meeting of the new
Ilahonim youth group will be
held this Sunday evening, Nov.
15 , 8 p. m., at the Farband shule,
1912 Taylor. The program for
this meeting will include movies
of Habonim activities, presenta-
tion of the program for the
group, refreshments, and danc-
ing. Harold Greenberg will pre-
side.
This will be the tenth and old-
est group of Habonim to be form-
ed this year. Activities begin with
bo ys and girls ten years old, and
include youth in their early twen-
ties. The program of Habonim
IS based upon Zionist education
and activity, and includes Jew-
ish culture, entertainment, scout-
ing, summer camps, and other im-
provement activities. For further

The bride's gown was made
with a light bodice of fine alencon
lace, buttoned down the back with
tiny lace-covered buttons and
fashioned with a becoming sweet-
heart neckline, the very full skirt
was of heavy ivory satin and end-
ed in a long train. She carried a
prayer book and orchids. Mrs.
Joe Liburt, sister of the bride,
a military blue gown fashioned
with bodice of satin and very full
net skirt and carried American
Beauty roses. Miss Annette Eizel-
man, sister, was maid of honor
and wore a soft sky blue taffeta
gown. The bridesmaids all in rose
more taffeta gowns were Mrs. Al-
fred Goldman, Mrs. David Mills,
Mrs. Arthur Grenn and Mrs. Jos.

Eizelman.
The flower girls were Dolores
Kaplan and Lorraine Mills, both
wearing pastel taffeta gowns. Miss
Z. Pragg in a gown of blue chif-
fon was junior bridesmaid.
The groom's brother, Miles Ze-
man, acted as best man with Stan-
ley Berris, Harry Solomon, Wil-
liam Freedman, Miles Myerson
and Dr. Joe Liburt as ushers.
Warren Liburt was junior usher,
Bert Liburt being ring bearer.
Both Mrs. Zelman and Mrs. Eiz-
elman chose gowns of grey crepe
with sequin trim and wore cor-
sages of orchids. Dinner and re-
ception followed the ceremony.

The bride was lovely in a gown
of white satin, her finger tip
veil being held by a halo, and
she carried a bouquet of garden-
ias and roses.
Rose C. Travis was her sister's
maid of honor with Bertha
Moskofsky, Maxine Copp, Wini-
fred Shlon as bridesmaids and
Natalie Elaine Greenberg was
junior bridesmaid. Sanders Hertz-
berg acted as best man with the
following ushers Sanford Rubin,
Julius Travis, Dr. Milton Lappin
and Kelvin Moskofsky.
Dinner and reception followed
the ceremony.

Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple
Israel will deliver the second of
his series of Friday night lec-
tures on "Jewish Folklore and
Legend," Nov. 20, at 8:30 p. m.,
in the Lecture Hall of the De-
troit Institute of Arts.
The first lecture in this series
was given two weeks ago, on the
subject, "The Legends of Abra-
ham." The second lecture will
be on the special topic, "The Le-
gends of the Patriarchs and the
Matriarchs."
Other lectures in the series will
be, "The Legends of Moses," "The
Legends of the Temple," "The
Legends of Solomon," and "The
Legends of the Chassidim."
Cantor Robert S. Tulman, ac-
companied by Organist Karl W.
Haas, will chant traditional Sab-
bath melodies.
The service will be followed
by a Social Hour, in the Roman-
esque Hall of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts.
After the social hour, the young
people will gather for the Youth
Symposium, when the young peo-
ple will discuss youth problems
and will ask questions of the
Rabbi.
