This year's committee is ar-

Friday evening, October 9. City
and state officials and veterans
leaders will welcome the delegates
Saturday morning., October 10. A

S a turday evening, with re-
nowned personages as guests.

the arrests are continuing on a
mass scale.
Since August 7 large numbers
of Jewish refugee's have been
loaded on cattle cars every three
days and shipped to Poland as
"slave laborers" to work on Ger-
man farms and Mines. The wives
and children of the men are sent
to special camps.
The Pope appealed to Laval and
Marshal Petain after he WAS in-
formed that the Nazis had de-
manded immediate roundup in
both occupied and unoccupied
France of all refugees who en-
tered France after 1933 when
Hitler seized power in Germany.
The Pope's plea was brought to
Laval by Mgr. Valerio Valeri,
Papal Nuncio.
At the same time protests
against the anti-Jewish deporta-
tions and persecutions were made
to Marshal Petain by Cardinal
Suchard, Archzishop of Paris, and
Cardinal Gerlier, Archbishop of
Lyons. Both Catholic leaders de-
livered a "spirited" protest against
the racial and religious persecu-
tions.
Fernand de Brinon, Vichy's
emissary to NHS, was reported
to have devised the protesting
clergymen that the anti-Semitic
program was a definite part of
the Laval Government's policy.
Despite the fact that Laval chose
to ignore his plea, the Pope was
reported to be c o ntinuing his pres-
