DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle

Boake Carter Converted
To New Form of Judaism

NEW YORK.-Boake Carter,
radio c ommentator and news-
paper columnist, said today that
he had embraced a "Biblical
Hebrew faith" and was hard at
work with David Horowitz, a
Biblical student, of Wilkes
Barre. Pa., on a new translation
of the Old Testament.
Carter declared that while
Horowitz was on a visit to Jeru-
salem in 1927 he had come
across a hermit, described by
some persons as "the new proph-
et," living in caves along the
route of the Biblical exodus.
The hermit, Carter said,, told
Horowitz that after years of
scientific research he had found
that all versions and transla-
tions of the Bible, whether of
Christian, Jewish or any other
origin, had done grave unjustice
to the original Hebrew text.
Since his conversion to his
new belief, after having pre-
viously tried the Church of Eng-
land faith and Christian Science,
Carter said he had been aiding

Horowitz with translating the
"true version" of the Old Testa-
ment as forwarded to them by
the hermit, Moses Guibbory,
from Palestine.
Carter said he had observed
most rituals of Judaism since his
conversion it year ago, but did
not follow orthodox or "rabbin-
ical Judaism, an organized re-
ligion."
"Pm finding the answer for
which I was searching," he said.
"Hitler is Satan. Germany is
Assyria. The 10 lost tribes of
Israel have not been lost. They
are in the United States and
England. •
It behooves the Anglo-Saxon-
Celtic-Judiac peoples to observe
the laws of Moses handed down
for victory. It may be that be-
cause they don't observe the
Mosiac laws, they are not win-
ning the war."

National Convention
Of J.W.V. to Be Held at
Asbury Park Oct. 10-I I

The Jewish War Veterans of
the United States are in the
process of altering their na-
tional constitution, at least for
the duration of the present emer-
gency so that the re-elections of
the national commander may be
permitted. Due to the splendid
performance of the present na-
tional comniander, Benjamin
Kaufman of Trenton, N. J.,
there is a universal desire to re-
elect him to office for another
year. He has performed admir-
ably in the field of national
public relations. His record in
World War One with the high
honor, the Congressional Medal
of Honor award by the United
States government, plus his
splendid civic record, has rapid-
ly gained many friends for the
JWV-- movement, throughout. the
nation. The National Convention
will be held in Asbury Park on
October 1 and 11.
Many names have been pro-
posed for service membership
for the department of Michigan
Jewish War Veterans' Organi-
zation. These represent a verit-
able who's who of Detroit's
Jewry. Some of the following
familiar names already appear,
namely: Cohen, Burnstine, Levy,
Leve, Raskin, Ravine, Rosen,
Greenberg, Grossfelt, Tonilich,
u s c it k i n, Snider, Weinberg,
Garmel, Minus, Sarasohn, Mey-
ers, Golden, Dana, and many
others.
Service membership is strictly
voluntary and all privileges of
the organization are available
without the necessity of paying
dues or assessments.
In the very near future the
department of Michigan will in-
stall the newly elected officers
of its respective posts. As a
cooperative war effort policy
these installations will be massed.
The Department of Michigan
recently cooperated with the
Army Show Organization in the
sale of tickets and publicizing
its present successful tour. The
department also cooperated with
Detroit's well known ball play-
er, George Moriarity, with the
sale of the poem Mr. Moriarity
copyrighted and donated to the
welfare of the Detroit Navy
Club. The beautiful patriotic
card that is being distributed,
carried the poem, "You're
Gonna Win that Ball Game,
Uncle Sam."
All boys between the ages of
12 and 16 can enroll in the
Drum and Bugle Corps by con-
tacting the department head-
quarters at Te. 2-3855. Fifty-
three instruments are available
for use and uniforms will be
procured in the future. Sports,
