Sinai Installation
Program Impressive

One of the most impressive
installation ceremonies ever to
be held in Detroit was the in-
stalling of the newly elected
officers last Sunday night, June
7, at the Temple Beth El with
Rabbi Leo, chaplain of the or-
ganization, officiating. D an i el
Roof, lecturer, traveler and
a dventurer, gave an eloquent in-
troduction on the symbolism of
light and warmth eminating
from the lighting of the can-
dle s, each of which meant a
year for the five years of hard
work, service, faith and hope of
the .1t. Sinai Hospital organi-
zation's struggles for attaining
their goal—that of building a
Hospital under Jewish Auspices.
The progress made toward that
goal was very adequately out-
lined by Mr. Lewis, architect of
the Children's home, as were
the future plans and hopes for
the new hospital.
Mrs. Charles Gitlin presented
the Red Cross Unit of the Mt.
Sinai Hospital with their second
merit stripes, and gave a very
fitting address with the presen-
tation. Mrs. Ruben, newly ap-
pointed chairman of the De-
fense Stamp Committee, report-
ed the sale of one hundred dol-
lars worth of stamps prior to
the opening of the meeting.
Miss Rosina Betman rendered
several pleasing vocal selections
accompanied by Miss Betty Blin-
stub at the piano. The highlight
of the entertainment was pre-
sented by the Halevy Singing
Society under the direction of
Dan Frohman who presented a
number of selections in Heb-
rew, Yiddish, some of which
were original arrangements of
Mr. Frohman. Their rendition
of Brahm's Fifth Dance was
especially fine.
Rabbi Fram spoke on the ac-
complishment of the organiza-
tion toward its ultimate goal.
He emphasized the extent of
the importance of reaching this
goal and what it meant to the
community.
The meeting adjourned to the
refreshment halls where re-
freshments were served. Ap-
proximately 400 members at-
tended.
Those installed were : Presi-
dent, Mrs. Jacob Harvith ; vice
presidents, Mrs. Isaac Rosen-
thal, Mrs. Leon Katzin, Mrs.
Max Rosenblaum and Mrs. Ber-
nard Rose ; treasurer, Mrs. Sam-
uel Atlas; financial secretary,
