The London Times, in comment-
ing on the speech, which it also
carried, asks editorially why Jew-
ish aid was declined. It points
out a Jewish force of 10,000 was
mobilized despite restrictions and
rendered good service in Greece,
Crete, Libya, and Syria, even
though these Jews were described
only as "Palestinians”.

JERUSALEM. — (JPS-Palcor)

the most brutal slaying of thou-

Collective punishment imposed
on the majority of the Rumanian-
Jewish communities, in terms of
physical brutality and expropria-

Temple Israel Opens
Its Friday Services

Thanksgiving Service at Mecca-
bees Bldg. Nov. 21

The Sabbath Eve services of
Temple Israel opened Friday
night, Nov. 7. Members of the
new congregation and their
friends crowded into the Macca-
bees Auditorium occupying its en-
tire seating capacity of over 600.
The policy which Rabbi Fram
announced in his installation ad-
dress was realized. The congre-
gation participated in the serv-
ice. They not only sang the fa-
miliar Sabbath hymns but joined
Cantor Robert S. Tulman in the
singing of the Hebrew responses
of the service. Cantor Tulman
gave beauty to the service by his
rendition of the traditional melo-
dies of the Kiddush and other
Sabbath Eve prayers. The serv-
ice was replete with symbolism,
including the reading from the
Scroll. .
Rabbi Leon Fram preached
the subject, "Religion in t17.-.
World Crisis". The essence of his
sermon was the declaration that,
in the great conflict which faces
us, religion is the prime issue.
The hour of sociability and re-
freshment which followed the
service was arranged by Mrs.
Leon B. Cowen. The youth sym-
posium was conducted by Robert
Mazer, chairman of the Young
People's Club of Temple Israel.
The idea met with a warm re-
sponse by the young people who
stayed until midnight discussing
the theme of. Rabbi Fram's ser-
mon.
The institution of a youth sym-
posium, following the Sabbath
Eve service, was created in De-
troit by Rabbi Fram and has
achieved a national reputation
and emulation.
At .the services of Nov. 14, the
Lt. Eli Levin Post of the Jewish
World War Veterans of the
United States, presented Temple
Israel with an American Flag.
Dr. Robert Rosen made the pres-
entation. The congregation pro-
nounced the pledge to the Flag
and Morris Garvett, president of
Temple Israel; accepted the Flag
in the name of the congregation.
On Friday night, Nov. 21, Tem-
ple Israel will observe Thanks-
giving Sabbath Eve. Rabbi Leon
Fram will pearch on the subject:
"Thanksgiving—A Festival of the
American Spirit".
