Magen David New Identifying
Symbol for German Jews
GENEVA (JPS) — The Jews
of Germany, who until now have
been spared the yellow armbands
and other peculiarly German iden-
tifying marks devised for con-
suered territories, are now forced
to wear the Magen David sewed
firmly on the left breast. Effect-
ive Sept. 15, all Jews in Ger-
many and Bohemia-Moravia who
are more than six years old will
be required to wear the insignia
prominently displayed or be sub-
ject to the fine of $60 or six
weeks' imprisonment.
With the thoroughness which
still evokes the admiration of my-
opic isolationists, the Germans
have taken pains to specify the
type and details of the star. It
must be a six-pointed one, out-
lined in black on yellow cloth the
size of the palm of one's hand,
with the word "Jude" as a black
superins•ription. In addition, Jews
are now forbidden the wearing of
orders or decorations, including
those won in the service of the
grateful Reich.
Make yourself an honest man,
and then you may be sure that
there is one rascal less in the
world.—Carlyle.
To feel much for others, and
little for ourselves; to restrain
our selfish, and exercise our be-
nevolent affections, constitutes
the perfection of human -nature.
