Mrs. David Dubinsky, wife of the president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Unions,
presents a check of $7,000 to Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, to be
transferred to England for ORT relief work among refugees there. The check represents the amount
of the profits made from a concert arranged at Carnegie Hall under the chairmanship of Mrs.
Dubinsky. Looking on are (at left), Mr. Alexander Halpern, president of ORT in England, and
Mr. Adolph Held, chairman of Labor & Peoples ORT. Lady Marley, wife of Lord Marley, deputy
speaker of the House of Lords in England, declared recently in a speech here, that funds sent
to ORT trade schools in England help British defense.

Paris Doctors Demand 500 Jew-
ish Physicians Be Barred
From Practice

A

INDEPENDENT
BISCUIT CO.

VICHY (WNS)—The Associa-
tion of French Doctors in occu-
pied France, under the domina-
tion of Nazi elements, has pro-
tested to the Nazi authorities in
Paris against the fact that 500
Jewish physicians are still per-
mitted to treat non-Jewish pa-
tients, it was learned here. In
a formal protest, the Association
demanded that Jewish doctors be
allowed to treat Jewish patients
only.
Meanwhile, the Vichy Govern-
ment announced that two Jewish
public officials, both of them war
veterans, would be exempted from
the anti-Jewish statute barring
Jewish civil service employees.
They are Armand Mayer, state
mining engineer, who established
the first soil mechanics labora-
tory in France, and Pierre Lion,
mining engineer and international
power expert.

Musicologists claim that the
melody for Had Gayda, one of
the important Passover songs,
was borrowed from a famous
French folk song which used to
be sung in the Provence.
