Seder service depicted in the precious hand illuminated Cin-
cinnati Haggadah made in the 14t4h Century in Germany, by
Meir Jaffe and now in the collection of the Hebrew Union Col-
lege, Cincinnati. Dr. Franz Landsberger, lecturer in Jewish art
at the college and internationally known art historian, describes
this Haggadah and its maker in Volume XV of the Hebrew Union
College Annual and in an article appearing in the current "Jewish
Layman" published by the National Federation of Temple Brother-
hoods.

French People Consider Vichy a Negation of All France Stands For,
He Says; Writer's Article Says French People

We consider ourselves fortunate indeed, under the
existing war conditions, to have secured a reasonable
quantity of these goods.

In spite of difficulty in obtaining fine English goods,
we have never had a more attractive or colorful stock
to offer our customers, but it is becoming increasingly
difficult to get such goods as these. If you would rather
be wearing the choicest patterns than admiring them
on someone else, now is the time to make your selection.

SEE THE NEW 1941 STYLE LEADER

The boldest of the Vichy regime oppositionist s cover walls with
slogans such as appears above. From the feature "I Come
Fro,. Underground France," in the newest issue of Friday
Magazine.

NEW YORK. — The French
people are striking back at the
Vichy regime and are sure they
will win, states an article in the
current Friday Magazine.
That a popular revolt against
the Vichy Government is grow-
ing in intensity Friday's article
reveals, is indicated by the
thousands of "underground"
leaflets being distributed through-
out all of France. These leaflet-
articles are written and printed
at night in backyard shanties,
basements, and on forlorn farms
where someone must always keep
a constant watch for the police.
In Paris, throughout the in-
dustrial areas and in Vichy it-
self, Friday's article states, op-
positionists cover walls with slo-
gans against the tyrannical re-
gime. "Long Live de Gaulle!"
"Down With Petain!" and "Death
to Hitler!" are the mottos most
frequently seen. In addition,
there is spoken propaganda—
maybe the most effective of all,
because there is no way of
checking it. Breadlines, movies,
cafes, streetcars and even street
corners are convenient places to
vent one's discontent.
French Fascist leader Jacques
Doriot recently thundered "Who

has not noticed in places where
news is displayed, in breadlines,
men and women start up conver-
sations and all day long criticize
with a poisonous cunning the
Marshall's policy."
