NEW YORK. — "The humani-
tarian service for the rescue of
the victims of aggression is an
inseparable part of the struggle
against the aggressors!" This
thought was the major keynote
sounded at the 56th annual con-
vention of the Hebrew Sheltering
and Immigrant Aid Society, held
Sunday at Hotel Astor. More
than 2,000 delegates representing
hundreds of religious, welfare,
fraternal and labor organizations
met under the banner of this so-
ciety, known as HIAS, to review
its work in 1940 and to charter a
course of action for the critical
period that lies ahead in 1941.
The action, described as a "res-
cue through emigration" program,
aims at facilitating the emigra-
tion of refugees from the zones
of war and oppression in Europe
to havens of safety and refuge
in countries overseas, in accord-
ance with the respective preval-
ing immigration laws. Told that
Hitler's blitzkrieg in 1940 has
not completely eliminated the pos-
sibilities for rescue through emi-
gration and informed that a con-
siderable number of refugees has
been able to find refuge during
the past year, the delegates from
all parts of the country unani-
mously approved a budget of
$1,000,000 to maintaing and ex-

cess Story" which has been

The presentation of "Success
Story" will take place under the
auspices of the Greater Detroit
Bnai Brith Council through ar-
rangements made with Louis Ro-

Anita Newblatt, president of the
Hillel Players. The play has been
directed by Arthur Klein, grad-
uate student at the University
of Michigan and instructor in
the speech department. The stage
setting is in charge of Robert
Mellencamp of Play Production at
the University. Sydney Steinhart

the production.
Leading roles will be taken oy

iam Shafton and Donald Diamond.
Supporting roles will be played
by Robert Cohn, Arthur Fischer,

Werner.
"Success Story" was originally
produced on Broadway 10 years
ago with Franchot Tone playing
the leading role. It ran for more
than 200 performances.
Tickets for the production are
being distributed by all Bnai
Brith lodges and auxiliaries in
the Detroit area, and may be pur-
chased through the Temple Beth
El and the Jewish Community
Center.
The Hillel Foundation is one
of the subsidiary organizations
supported by Bnai Brith. The
University of Michigan Unit, di-
rected by Rabbi Jehudah M. Coh-
en, receives an annual subsidy
from the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. Nine hundred Jewish stu-
dents at the University are affil-
iated with the Foundation.
