necessary funds. A large num-
ber of the cable's were received
through Hapag Lloyd. It was
explained that many Jews sent
their appeals through Hapag
Lloyd since the German steam-
ship line could guarantee that
cables would be received in the
United States. It was reported
that some Viennese Jews who
tried to cable directly to their
relatives were unable to get
their messages through.
