Brilliant Event Features Temple Beth El's
Ninetieth Anniversary

Rabbi Fram Honored on Completion of 15 Years of
Service; Principal Address at Banquet
Delivered by Rabbi Mann

Impressive ceremonies through-
out the week-end and a banquet
on Sunday evening marked the
celebration of the 90th anni-
versary of Temple Beth El.
The principal speaker at the
banquet was Rabbi Louis L. Mann
of Chicago who declared that if
there is hope for the world in
the present crisis it will come in
religion.
Barry C. Grossman, who was
re-elected president of the Tem-
ple at the meeting which pre-
ceded the evening affair, pre-
sided at the banquet.
Among the many leaders of
the congregation who were hon-
ored at the banquet were: Rab-
bi Leo M. Franklin, spiritual di-
rector since 1899; Rabbi Leo
Fram, who is celebrating his 15th
anniversary with the temple;
State Supreme Court Justice
Henry M. Butzel, Melville S.
Welt, Israel Himelhoch and
Morris Garvett, former presi-
dents of the congregation; the
Misses Hattie and Florence Sil-
berman, descendants of the first
president; and more than a score
of members who boast 40 years
or more of membership.
In introducing Rabbi Leon
Fram as one of the speakers
at the banquet of Temple Beth
El, Mr. Grossman gave the con-

The Detroit Jewish National
Fund Council has completed ar-
rangements to show the latest
technicolor sound film of Pales-
tine on Monday evening, Dec. 16,
in the Assembly Hall of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek. There will
be a nominal charge for admis-
sion to defray the costs of pro-
ducing the film.
"Our Promised Land" was pro-
duced a few months ago and por-
trays Palestine and the Jewish
Yishub under the effect of the
present war conditions. It tells
a story of captivating character
and unforgettable significance—
the story of the Jewish National
Home, in its natural life colors,
portraying vividly the heroism of
the men and the women defend-
ers of Eretz Israel against as-
sault and attack from all sides.
Tickets for the movie can be
obtained by calling Dr. Israel
Wiener, president of the Detroit
J. N. F. Council, at Tyler 5-6894
or Tyler 5-6434.
