Wendell Willkie
The Man Who Gave Knockout Blow to Bigots
To Wendell L. Willkie, standard bearer of the Republican Party who will
be the next President of the United States, goes the credit for having giving a
deathblow to bigotry and for having courageously rejected the support of subver-
sive un-American elements.
Wendell L. Willkie refused the support of Rev. Charles E. Coughlin because
of his racial animus.
Wendell L. Willkie rejected the aid of the Nazis.
Wendell L. Willkie condemned Joe McWilliams, the repudiated Yorkville
Nazi candidate.
Willkie Repudiates Coughlin
An America Free of Race Hatred
In his speech of acceptance at Elwood, Ind.. last
Saturday. Wendell \Villkie, Republican candidate for
the Presidency, pledged the voters of Americ' a land
- free of hate and bitterness. of racial and class dis-
tinction.
Libertarians everywhere will be heartened by this
declaration. It proves once more that on the question
of tolerance. freedom and equality there is no differ-
ence of opinion. On this question. as Mr. \Villkie said,
"party lines arc down."
This ought to be a warning to anti-Semites every-
where, including the bigots in this country. We may
differ on political and economic questions. But there is
no disputing the basic principle incorporated in the
Bill of Rights that all men are created equal. that ty-
ranny must he outlawed, that there is no room in Amer-
ica for the venom which is dragging the European peo-
ples through the mire.

WENDELL L. WILLKIE
Wendell Willkie has no more sympa-
thy with the bigotries of Hitlerism
than Governor Lehman or myself .. .
I stand for Willkie, who points the
way by character and by achievement
to a real new birth of teamwork and
American productivity. There is no
comfort for Hitler in the prospect of
submitting Willkie efficiency for New
Deal waste.
—JOSEPH M. PROSKAUER.
Elect Wendell L ■ Willkie
Wendell L. Willkie's repudiation of Father Charles
E. Coughlin is being accepted with relief by many peo-
ple. There were some who wondered whether the en-
dorsement by a spreader of hate of a candidate for the
Presidency will be permitted to pass unchallenged. It is
to the credit of Mr. \Villkie that he has spoken em-
phatically and frankly on the subject. He wants none
of Coughlin's support. Only a Mc\Villiams, or a Win-
rod. or a Pelley, or a Vsrard, or a Derry, will take
that support.
The lines are now pretty sharply drawn. There are
those who stand for the perpetuation of American ideals.
and there are the elements who accept anti-Semitism and
who would destroy the American way of life if given
a chance. Mr. Willkie has chosen to stand with the
American patriots.
