The Rabbis and the Jewish Ke-
hillah (Community) Council at
Safed have informed the Chief
Rabbinical Council for Palestine
of the opening of a Rabbinical
Court and office here consisting
of Rabbis Abraham Leib Silber-
stein (Ab Beth Din), Aaron ben
Shimon and Ephraim Weingott.
The Chief Rabbinical Council
has recognized this office and
has informed the Government
officially of its sanction of the
Beth Din as a first-class rabbini-
cal court, whose rulings and doc-
uments should be given effect in
accordance with the Religious
Communities Rules enacted by
the Palestine Administration.

Hebrew University
Publishes New Books
Word has been received by
Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, presi-
dent of the American Friends of
the Hebrew University, of the
publication by the Hebrew Uni-
versity Press, Jerusalem, of the
following books:
"The Basic Word Lise of the
Arabic Daily Newspaper," com-
piled by Moshe Brill, in collabo-
ration with D. Neustadt and P.
Schusser, with introduction in
Hebrew, English and Arabic, 120
pages, price 300 mills. Dr. Brill
is a member of the pedagogical
department of the Hebrew Uni-
versity, and Messrs. Neustadt and
Schusser, both graduates of the
University, are now engaged in
research at the University. Re-
ports from Jerusalem on "The
Basic Word List" indicates that
the book has been exceedingly
well received in Palestine by the
press, and in learned Arabic cir-
cles.
"Introduction to the Theory of
Knowledge," by Hugo Bergmann,
310 pages, price 450 mills. Dr.
Bergmann, who has been at the
University since its inception,
now occupies the Chair of Philo-
sophy and was the University's
first Rector. He is the author
of many other books in the fields
of mathematics and philosophy.
Among them are: "The Philoso-
phy of Immanuel Kant"; "Mod-
ern Thinkers"; and "Analysis of
the Evidence of Inner Percep-
tion."
"Introduction to Meterology,"
by Dov Ashbel, 313 pages, price
650 mills. Dr. Ashbel, head of
the University's Meterological
Laboratory, has established a net
of meterological stations in Pal-
estine which together with gov-
ernment stations and others form
a system of over 100 observa-
tories.
"Introduction to the Hebrew
Poetry of the Spanish Period,"
by David Yellin, 354 pages, price
550 mills. Dr. Yellin is profes-
sor of Hebrew literature. In 1926
he was guest lecturer at Colum-
bia University and at the Jewish
Institute of Religion. Among his
other published works are: "The
Jewish Poetry of Medieval
Spain," a Hebrew grammar, and
a commentary on Isaiah.
