SAM WEITZMAN
a resident of Detroit for 53
years, passed away Thursday,
July 11. Funeral services were
held at Lewis Bros. funeral home
with burial at Machpelah Ceme-
tery. He is survived by his wife,
Rose; two daughters, Mrs. Hattie
Levin and Mrs. Sarah Gold;
three sons, Abe, William and
Lawrence of Youngstown, 0.;
a sister, Mrs. Lena Davidson of
Los Angeles, Calif; and eight
grandchildren.
NORMAN HELPERT
passed away suddenly on July
2, at Grace Hospital. Funeral
services were held on July 4, at
Temple Beth El. Surviving him
are his wife, Leah; two sisters,
Mrs. Fanny Shapiro and Mrs.
Lottie Shapiro, and a brother,
Samuel Helpert, all of Detroit.
Mr. Helpert was born Sept. 24,
1880, and spent practically all of
his life in Toronto, Ontario,
where he was one of the leading
Jewish communal figures. The
past few years, which he spent
in Detroit, he has been in poor
health.

A TRIBUTE TO JEWISH PIONEERS
At a meeting attended by more than 200 people, held on
Monday evening at Hotel Statler and addressed by Dr. Solo-
mon Goldman, former president of the Zionist Organization
of America, the sum of $15,000 was subscribed towards the
million dollar emergency loan for Palestine.
This loan, which will be repaid in a year at the interest
rate of 2 1 ,4 per cent, will he used for unemployment relief,
evacuation centers for children, air raid shelters and other
emergency needs in Palestine.
At the annual convention of the Zionist Organization of
America in Pittsburgh, on July 1, the sum of $300,000
was subscribed towards the loan.
