The death of Moses Weingar-
den, retired Detroit battalion fire
chief, on June 27, served to re-

ber of the local fire department.
Mr. Weingarden, whose home
was at 3336 ' W.• Philadelphia
Ave., was born in Detroit 68
years ago. Joining the Fire De-
partment in August, 1891, as a
pipeman, he was made a lieu-
tenant in 1904, a captain in 1913
and battalion chief in 1919. After
36 years of service, he retired
13 years ago.
Among the famous Detroit fires
in which Mr. Weingarden figured
were the Keenan and Jahn in
1891, and the Michigan Stove
Works in 1896, when this fac-
tory burned to the ground.
Mr. Weingarden was a mem-
ber of the Native Born Detroiter;;
Club, the Maccabees, the Retired
Firemen's Association and the
Republican Club.
He is survived by his wife,
Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel
Cohen and Mrs. Beatrice H. Ben-
nett; a son, Harold; two sisters,
Mrs. Mary Solinsky and Lillie
Weingarden, and a brother, Julius
Weingarden.
