DEFINITION OF A JEW
•
A Jew, according to Dr. M.
Epstein, distinguished British
writer, is that man "who cares
to be a Jew, who is interested
in the affairs of Jews whether
you call them a people, a race,
or a religious community, whose
heart thrills as he reads the story
of the Jews through the cen-
the
turies, who is proud of
achievements of the Jews, who
glories in the strength of the
Jew in having resisted the cor-
roding influence of time, who
models his conduct on Jewish
ethics, and supports the princi-
ples which the Jewish religion
teaches and which Jews ac-
cept."
$1,000,000 Hitler Reward Of-
fered After Receipt of Se-
cret Information
PITTSBURGH. (WNS) — The
offer of $1,000,000 in cash for
the capture of Adolf Hitler was
made following receipt from a
"statesman in Europe" of the
Nazi Fuehrer's war plans, accord-
ing to Dr. Samuel Harden
Church, president of Carnegie
Institute, who made public the
now expired offer.
In explaining his offer, which
received world-wide publicity, Dr.
Church said that his European
informant, whose name he would
not disclose, quoted Hitler as
saying that "the Germans will
send millions of shells on the
Maginot Line, and break through,
even at the cost of half a mil-
lion lives, and before the end of
the year the enemies of Germany
will be annihilated."
Dr. Church stated that "the
letter intimated that Mr. Hitler
would permit Mr. Mussolini to
make the Adriatic a closed Ital-
ian sea, to absorb Yugoslavia,
take over Slovenia, Bosnia and
part of Croatia, giving another
part of it to Hungary, which in
time will become German."
Dr. Church said that his offer
was phrased in "terms that
would preclude assassination or
kidnaping." "He must be de-
livered for trial," the college
president's statement continued,
"safe and sound, and, by impli-
cation, this could be done only
by a changed government in
Germany, acting solely upon the
moral inspiration of the proposal,
to be initiated, we hoped, by
great German dissenters, like
Fritz Thyssen, and thousands of
fine men like him."
Dr. Church said that he had
sent copies of the letter he re-
ceived from Europe "to the gov-
ernments of those countries who
would be the most concerned."
