C. C. A. R. ELECTS
RABBI LEIPZIGER

Reform Rabbis Finish
Sessions in Charlevoix

CHARLEVOIX, Mich. — Rabbi
Emil IV. Leipziger, New Orleans,
was re-elected to the presidency
of the Central Conference of
American Rabbis at the closing
session of the organization's 51st
annual meeting here Sunday. The
conference re-elected Rabbi James

on religious work in universities
was presented by Rabbi Bernard
Heller of Philadelphia.
The right of conscientious ob-
jectors to refuse to bear arms
"on religious and humanitarian
grounds" was upheld by the Cen-
tral Conference of American Rab-
bis here during the organization's
51st annual meeting. The stand
was taken in affirming a resolu-
tion which had been adopted by
the conference in 1936 and which
declared that conscientious objec-
tion was not inconsistent "with
the highest principles of Juda-
ism."

Wolff Prepares Address Urging
Unity, Then Suffers Heart
Ailment
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y.
(WNS )—Max E. Wolff, grand
master of the Independent Order
of Brith Abraham, suffered a
heart ailment just before he was
to deliver his address opening
the organization's 53rd annual
convention. Mr. Wolff, whose con-
dition was reported as serious,
prepared his address in advance
and it was distributed in pam-
phlet form to the 1,000 delegates
assembled from all parts of the
country for the convention.
Mr. Wolff urged American Jews
"to unite to stem the pagan holi-
day that is sweeping Europe."
"We must unite to stem the
breakdown of culture and civili-
zation and help our brothers and
sisters on foreign soil who suf-
fered martyrdom for their reli-
gious beliefs," the address stated.
Declaring that England was
the "Maginot Line of the United
States," Rabbi Stephen S. Wise
urged Americans, "irrespective of
politics," to send "all aid to Eng-
land, short of war." "Hitlerism
does not ask and will not ask
Republicans or Democrats wheth-
er they are firm believers in de-
mocracy," Rabbi Wise said. "Re-
member, the choice is between
Hitler and civilization, Hitler and
democracy."

Honeymooners Converge on
Stein's Clover Lodge
at Omena, Mich.

Four minds with a single thought
produced a reunion under strange
circumstances at Clover Lodge,
Omena, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Naimark,
of Detroit, and Mr. and Mrs. Saul
Berch, also of Detroit, had been
friends for many years. On Sun-
day, June 16, both couples were
married. Monday both couples
started out from Detroit, seeking
a quiet place for a honeymoon.
Although neither couple knew of
the other's plans, both couples
arrived almost simultaneously at
Stein's Clover Lodge in Omens,
Mich., and are now spending their
honeymoons there together.
This, by the way, is the fifth
consecutive year in which the
season at Clover Lodge has been
initiated by honeymooners,
During July Fouth and the
entire week-end, there will be
(lancing at Stein's Lodge, and
special entertainment.
