A. Z. A. Spring Dance on
May 23 at Eastwood
Gardens
Henry Busse and his famed
coast-to-coast orchestra will play
for the spring dance to be given
by the 11 local chapters of the
A. Z. A., Junior order of Bnai
Brith, at the pre-opening of East-
wood Gardens on Thursday eve-
ning, May 23.
The dance committee arranged
for an added attraction that eve-
ning—a first nighter floor show
which will feature the personal
appearance of John Barton, star
in the current play production
at the Cass Theater, "Tobacco
Road."
The proceeds from the dance
will be used in the "Jerry Safur"
fund that chapters throughout
the country are assisting in rais-
ing to help support him in his
fight against infantile parlysis.
Jerry, president of the Milwau-
kee AZA Council, has been fight-
ing a determined battle since
last September when he was
stricken. He was recently trans-
ferred in an iron lung from Mil-
waukee to the Mt. Sinai Hos-
pital in Chicago. Jerry's mother,
a widow, has been unable to sup-
ply the necessary $29 a (lay for
hospital costs, and AZA through-
out the country is rallying to his
cause.
Assisting the AZA chapters in
their sale of tickets are the
Junior auxiliaries of the Bnai
Brith, the Ladies and Business
and Professional Women of the
Bnai Brith and the four local
Detroit Bnai Brith lodges.
Dance committee members in-
clude Mortan Sultan, chairman;
Phil Rothschild, publicity; Phil
Kaplan, tickets; Milton Barnett,
speakers' bureau; Herbert Bean,
Nathan Litwin, Bernard Rubin,
Edward Bard, Seymour Sobole,
Art Goodman, Israel Kaner and
Lillian Goldberg, Eillen Kaplan
and Geraldine Hamburg repre-
senting the Junior Auxiliaries.
Tickets may be secured from
any member of the AZA or may
be obtained at the door at the
night of the dance. Reservations
may be had by calling AZA head-
quarters, RA. 6653.
It was announced by the local
AZA director, Max Chomsky, that
the Michigan AZA council will
meet in Pontiac on Sunday, May
19, for an all-day session. Repre-
sentatives front the Michigan 18
AZA chapters will partake in the
business agenda as well as spore
activities during the afternoon.
Sessions will come to a climax
at the banquet at Hotel Roose-
velt, followed by a dance. Jack
Rouman, executive secretary of
Detroit AZA, will be guest
speaker.
