American Fascist Is
Sued in Chicago

CHICAGO. (WNS) — Miss
Judith Thompson has insti-
tuted a civil suit for $50,000
damages against Rudley Piere-
pont Gilbert, wealthy and so-
cially prominent American Fas-
cist, in the Circuit Court of
Cook County here. Earlier.
Gilbert appeared in Municipal
Court charged with assault and
battery.
According to the Hour, anti-
Nazi weekly, Gilbert, while
testifying before the Dies Com-
mittee last year, described a
fantastic "Jewish plot" to over-
throw the United States Gov-
ernment. Gilbert was reported
also to have made large con-
tributions to various "patriotic"
organizations, including t h e
American Nationalists of New
York, which Gilbert claimed
to have founded.
Miss Thompson charged that
Gilbert pronounced her first
name as "Jewdith" and de-
manded that she take the
"Jew" out of her name. She
alleged that Gilbert became
abusive and beat her. As a
result of the beating, she said,
she was confined to the hos-
pital for two days.

Zion Scouts Prepare
Against Air Raids

NEW YORK.—Preparedness
against air raids and poisonous
gas attacks by foreign powers
is now being practiced by
young Palestinian boys and
girls who are members of the
Jewish Scout Association in
Palestine.
In a communique to Young
Judaea, the junior affiliate of
the Zionist Organization of
America and sponsoring or-
ganization of the Scout move-
ment in Palestine, it was re-
vealed that military and civil
authorities in numerous Pales-
tine towns and cities have us-
signed the Scouts to the im-
portant duty of enrolling citi-
zens for anti-air raid precau-
tions and for the distribution
of gas masks to the population
in the event of an attack.
The Scout leaders were in-
vited by the British govern-
ment, it was learned, to attend
courses in anti-air raid precau-
tions and during the blackout
sessions the Scouts have been
cooperating with the army
against looting by unscrupu-
lous individuals and directing
persons to bomb-shelters.
In Tel Aviv, it was an-
nounced that the Scouts have
formed volunteer fire brigades
and have appealed to the gen-
eral public to mobilize as mem-
bers of the brigade. Scouts
also have been regimented into
first aid squads and other
youngsters have mobilized for
work on the farms and agri-
c u l t u r a l centers, replacing
those men who have enlisted
in the army.

THE MEN AROUND HITLER

An Astounding Story About the Associates of
the Head of the Nazi Regime

To understond the workings of
the Hitler regime it is necessary
to know not only the mind of
the Nazi fuehrer — as reflected
in "Mein Kampf"—but also the
characteristics and the emotion-
al reactions of the associates of
the leader of the regime of
horrors.
Oswald Dutch has rendered a
great service with a most as-
tounding book, "Hitler's Twelve
Apostles," recently published by
Robert M. McBride and Co., in
which we are given the intimate
stories of the dozen men who
contribute largely towards the
regime of horror.
The 12 apostles and the ex-
planatory titles given them by
the author are: Herman Goer-
ing, the Preacher of Modern
Air Warfare; Dr. Josef Goeb-
bels, the Virtuoso of Lying Prop-
aganda; Alfred Rosenberg, the
Heathen Proselyte; Rudolf Hess,
the Fuehrer's Deputy: Heinrich
Himmler, the Hangman of De-
mocracy; Dr. Robert Ley, the
Jailer of the German Working
Classes; Joachim von Ribben-
trop, Commercial Traveler for
National Socialism; Julius Strei-
cher, Jew Baiter No. 1; General
Walther von Brauchitsch, the
Initiator of the New World War;
Dr. Walther Funk, the "Thwarted
Artist"; Dr. Wilhelm Frick, Hit-
ler's Stirrup Holder; Baldur von
Schirach, the Idol of German
Youth.
Not limiting himself to these,
the author described also would-
be apostles and gives a brilliant
insight into the state of German
affairs today and the sadism that
rules the Nazi regime.
Jewish readers will be inter-
ested especially in the descrip-
tion of Streicherism. "It is not
entirely clear what impelled Jul-
ius Streicher, the Nuremberg
national schoolteacher, to make
anti-Semitism not only his life-
work, but also his almost exclu-
sive source of remuneration,"
Mr. Dutch writes. "While the
opposition in Germany could
speak, one often heard the ru-
mor that Streicher's anti-Semit-
ism had been unleashed through
an experience similar to that of
Hitler—a girl with whom he was
in love is said to have turned
him down in favor of a Jew.

This explanation sounds plausible,
for Streicher is known as an un-
scrupulous woman-chaser and a
violent Don Juan. He is also
possessed of an urge, amounting
almost to a persecution mania,
to display in most numbers of
the Stuermer cases of race
shame, and the sexual misde-
meanors of Aryan girls in most
intimate and disturbing details."

One of the most sinister fig-

Heinrich Himmler who has ac-
quired so much power as the
head of the Nazi secret police
that Hitler himself is said to
have cause to fear him.
It is clear from the picture
drawn by the author of "Hit-

is plenty of brain-power in the
Nazi regime, and that ability
runs in equal proportion to the
bestiality of the leaders.
Mr. Dutch's book is especially
valuable now, when German lead-
ership is in the limelight as a
result of the newest blitzkrieg.
It is a book well worth reading
