More Arrests in France Under
Race Hate Ban
PARIS. (WNS) - Following
the conviction last week of City
Councillor Louis Darquier de
Pellepoix, publisher of the anti-
Semitic weekly "France En-

Pierre Gerard, the French police
announced the arrest of another
French newspaper man, Fran-

for an anti-Semitic publication.
He was charged with writing ar-

to incite racial hatred. Pro-Nazi
and anti-Jewish propaganda is
still active in northern France
and in Alsace-Lorraine where po-
lice have made several arrests.
The latest Nazi spy scandal in
France started with expulsion of
Otto Abetz, personal agent of
Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim
von Ribbentrop, and the subse-
quent arrest of Leys Aubin and
Julien Poirer, officials of two
leading Rifhtist papers, Le Temps
and Figaro. The government
clamped down on the case al-
most as soon as word of it seeped
out, because of the number of
leading politicians in the Munich
circles in France who were
learned to be involved.
Pellepoixeand Gerard said they
planned appeals against the sen-
tences, imposed on them by the
correctional court, up to the Su-
preme Court, if necessary. Little
comment on the trial appeared
in the general press, although
the Royalist newspaper "Action
Francaise," was severe in its
criticism, declaring that the ver-
dict was intended as an example
to others.
