"Never So Much Resolution"
Framed by its president, Dr. Solomon
Goldman, and approved by the re-
cent national convention, the following
cable was sent by the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America to the Jewish Agency
Executive in Jerusalem:
"Convention showing great strength
and marked enthusiasm. Nd trace of de-
spondency or pessimism. Never so much
resolution and determination to stand
with Yishuv (Palestine Jewry) to remove
every obstacle in way of National Home."
If ever there was power in brevity, it is
expressed in these few words. "Never so
much resolution," American Zionists de-
clare. Only by resolution and determina-
tion will the battle for just rights be
won. The Zionist Organization of Amer-
by virtue of its fortunate position as
spokesman for the freest Jewish commu-
nity in the world, strengthens the hands
of the world Zionist leaders by resolutely
proceeding with the task of creating the
Jewish commonwealth in Palestine.
American Jewry owes unstinted sup-
port to the able president of the Zionist
Organization of America, Dr. Solomon
Goldman, and his administration, in the
present serious job of building Jewish
Palestine.
Loss of Two Scholars
American Jewry loses two creative
minds in the death of Prof. Israel David-
son of the Jewish Theological Seminary
of America and David Werner Amram,
Philadelphia attorney, writer and lec-
turer and professor of law at the Uni-
versity of Pennsylvania.
A world recognized authority on medi-
eval Jewish literature and author of a
2,000-page Hebrew thesaurus of medi-
eval poetry, Prof. Davidson was also au-
thor of numerous other scholarly works.
He was one of the first American Jews
to be called to lecture, in 1926, at the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Mr. Amram had been honored by the
courts of the State of Pennsylvania as
well as by his own people who learned
to admire his scholarship. His "Jewish
Law of Divorce According to the Bible
and Talmud" is a recognized authorita-
tive work.
Both men made contributions to Jew-
ish learning and left an indelible mark
on American Jewish scholarship.

PURELY COMMENTARY
By PHILIP SLOMOVITZ
The Nazis Are Abridging Their Troubles corps of foreign correspondents manages to keep
llitler, Goebbels, Goering and their associates
boast of power. They brag that they and their
axis can lick England and the democracies. But
they have not said a word about the internal
strife which is undermining Nazism. They are
mum on the question of the powerful opposition
to Ilitlerism within Germany as well as the
other conqureed territories.
Their silence is a good omen. It is, in an im-
purtant sense, an admission that the less said
about the internal troubles the better, out of the
necessity to "appease" world public opinion which
Ilitlerism hopes to keep in ignorance of actual
occurrences.
But the world is beginning to realize that
something is brewing in Nazi ranks. Many Ger-
mans now refuse to submit to the whip without
protest. An effective group is now enrolled in
the opposition movement which is strengthening
the underground anti-Nazi forces. The libertar-
ians have the floor.
The most encouraging bit of evidence to come
from Nazi-land since the advent of the scourge
of Hitlerism is released by "Germany To-Day,"
the monthly periodical that publishes news from
underground anti-Fascist sources. "Germany To-
Day" is published in London and its American
distributor is the American Committee for Anti-
Nazi Literature, 20 Vesey St., New York, In its
June issue, which has just reached this Com-
mentator, the leading article deals with "Opposi-
tion in the Open" and relates the following sig-
nificant incident:
the world informed. It is now generally known
that the Germans are suffering from a shortage
of food, that they are being driven into slavery
by totalitarian control not only of government
but also of industry, and that the impoverished
•and pauperized German people is beginning to
feel the sting of slavery. A sympathetic mankind
is now kept informed of a rebellious attitude
within Germany, of a defiant , spirit in Czecho-
slovakia, of an awakening in former Austria.
All of which goes to prove that war is un-
necessary; that Ilitlerism need not meet its doom
on the battlefield; that an inner revolt may very
soon put an end not only to the Nazi scourge
within Germany but also to its poisonous spread
outside of Germany. An internal German revolt
against those who would enslave this people will
also mean an end to the worldwide armament
race. It will mean not only peace but also eco-
nomic security. An abandonment of wasteful
spending for armies and navies will relieve the
world's vast resources for wholesome needs of
hundreds of millions of people who are now
starving and who live in dreaded insecurity.
Of course, revolts are bloody. But they are
not as cruel and as horrifying and as destructive
as wars. Furthermore, revolts can be peaceful.
Germany is destined for a revolt. The world will
wish the revolutionaries well—and will help them
when the time comes. And the free parts of the
world certainly hope that the impending and
inevitable will be as peaceful as possible.
