the frontiers of the Jewish Home-
land in Palestine. Rabbi Israel
II. Levinthal of the Brooklyn
Jewish Center declared Zionists
have faith in the British people
who "despite
the government
now at the helm, will refuse to
sanction an action that would
bring dishonor to all that is best
and noblest in British tradition."
Maurice Samuel, author and
lecturer, said the attempt to
"dismantle" the Jewish Homeland
is "the symbolic act of the na-
tions which regret having fol-
lowed a fine impulse."

Palestine can absorb four or
five million more Jewish settlers
without "taxing the economic
absorptive capacity of the coun-
try." Rehaviah Lewin-Epstein, di-
rector of the American Economic
Committee for Palestine and one
of the Holy Land's leading econ-
omists, reported at an institute
on Palestine economic conditions
of the Zionist convention.
Jewish economic development
has proceeded despite the three-
year reign of terror and the 20-
year total of Jewish investments
has reached $400,000,000, de-
clared Mr. Lewin-Epstein, who
recently arrived here from Pal-
estine.
Jewish investments made in
1938 alone amounted to $23,-
000,000, the economic expert
said, and there is capital in Eu-
rope and Palestine awaiting fur-
ther investment possibilities.
Describing economic progress
in Palestine, Mr. Lewin-Epstein
said that the 1,850 industriat
establishments existing in the
Holy Land in 1921 had increased
to 5,606 firms, with a total cap-
ital investment of $55.000,000,
yielding production valued at
$45,000,000 annually and em-
ploying 30,000 workers.
Bank deposits amount to $93,-
000,000, having increased by
$7,500,000 in the past year, Mr.
Lewin - Epstein reported, The

Morris Margulies, secretary of

of
America, reported that during
the year 22,000 new members
joined the organization. Ile pro-
posed the division of the coun-
try into 19 regions to conduct
the work of membership and or-
ganization.
The delegates pledged the sup-
port of the Zionist Organization
to the world Zionist leadership
in its policy of opposition to the
British White Paper dh Palestine.
The pledge was contained in
cables sent from the convention
to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, presi-
dent of the World Zionist Or-
ganization and of the Jewish
Agency for Palestine, who is in
London, and David Ben Gurion,
chairman of the Executive of
the Agency, in Jerusalem.
The message to both said:
"Bravely and firmly lead. and we
will devotedly and enthusias-
tically follow."
Another message was sent to
former Supreme 'Court Justice
Louis D. Brandeis, now in his
sunnier home in Chatham, Masa,
expressing gratitude to "the
wisest of our counsellors and
nobles of our friends."
In a telegraphed message to
the convention, Henry Monsky,
president of the Bind Brith, ex-
am* the hope that "justice
Will ultimately triumph over the
dictates of expediency" and said
that such a result will be as-
sured by the determined efforts
of the Jews to rebuild Palestine.
