audiences: Frank J. Hogan, from Washington. D.
C.. over a nationwide hook-up; Julien Bryan. at
the Art Institute, at a lecture arranged by the
World Adventure Series, and George F. Pierrot,
director of thi; lecture bureau, at the Shaarev
Zedek. Each man, in his own way, condemned
bigotry, pleaded for democracy.
Mr. Bryan's address was especially touching.
His condemnation of Nazism was devastating. It
was as frank as Mr. Ilogan's defense of the Bill
of Rights.
No, decency is not dead, and the democratic
ideal will be secure—provided we continue to
fight for decency and justice and refuse to be
disturbed by rabble-rousers.

New Version of "A Ticket, A Tasket"

Washington correspondent Arthur T. Weil Pub-
licizes a new version of "A Tisket. A Tasket"
which is current in the Nation's Capital, as fol-
lows: .
"A ticket, a tasket,
Put Hitler in his casket.
And Mussolini,
That old meaner,
Six feet underground.
Is Hitler Red?
No, no, no!
Is Hitler bide?
No, no, no!
Is Ilitler yellow?
Yes, yes, yes!
All the way down the back "
Why limit it to Washington? The country at
large may just as well enjoy it.

There is one passage in the book that deserves
constant repetition as a warning against the
spread of the hate-disease which has enveloped
Germany. One of the characters in the book. a
Jewish doctor, is speaking:

"But one must not lose faith, nor hope.
No, one must not. And one must not do
wrong oneself, just because others do. It
isn't the people who are doing these things.
We must not hate them for it. All our nerves
are on edge, these days, but it would be very
wrong to pay back with hatred. Once you be-
gin to hate you lose everything; you never
find the way back, and you bar the way back
to you for the others. We mustn't hate, be•
cause one day we shall have to feel sorry
for them . .. One day they'll wake up and
be very sorry for all this, very sorry. And
what will be so bad then, is that I shall
feel sorry for them having to be sorry. Be-
cause this will be a terrible humiliation to
our people, one day, when they will have to
stand up for what is being done now in their
name. They'll have to admit it, and it will
be hard. We Germans are a very proud pea.
pile, and to be humiliated is a bad thing for
us. That's why I feel sorry for them. Dignity
is so great a thing that its loss can destroy
■ man, and pot only ■ man but a whole na-
tion. Yes, dignity, just dignity—."
